Regarding bringing prescription medicines from abroad, both from Schengen and non-EU countries, falling under the category of narcotics: is it necessary to declare them to customs, or would a valid prescription and/or a medical certificate from a Norwegian doctor be sufficient if requested? The combination of suppositories I require for my medical condition is unavailable in Norway. Additionally, the available alternative here costs me 6000 NOK per month. It comes from Germany and is not available on blue prescription. Despite researching all relevant laws regarding seeking [reimbursement](https://www.helsenorge.no/refusjon-og-stotteordninger/refusjon-av-utlegg-til-legemidler-paa-blaa-resept/) for the medicine from various doctors, I’ve encountered misinformation and a lack of assistance. I go to the most ‘renowned’ pain specialist just btw.
This has led me to consider obtaining the necessary medicine from another EU country. My doctor advised me to do so but clarified that I won’t be reimbursed. However, he did not inform me about the requirement for doctors to fill out a form called “Legeerklæring for medbringing av legemidler med innhold av narkotika for reisende, jf Narkotikaforskriften §’9 andre ledd,” and he also claimed to be unaware of it. I’m frustrated with the misinformation and want to avoid any trouble at the airport if I choose this option.
Thoughts?

Your doctor is probably unaware of the form because this issue don’t come up often.
[Legemiddelverket](https://www.legemiddelverket.no/tilvirkning-import-og-salg/import-av-legemidler-til-personlig-bruk/legemidler-pa-reise-inn-til-norge) refers to the text of [the relevant law](https://lovdata.no/dokument/SF/forskrift/2013-02-14-199/%C2%A719?q=narkotikaforskriften%20%C2%A7%2019#%C2%A719), which states t that you must be able to document that the medication is for your personal use. This, the law states, can be done by the package’s label, the prescription or a doctor’s note. Which I take to read that if you have your prescription and the label on the package states that it has been prescribed to you, you ought to be in the clear.
I would, however, contact Norwegian Customs to verify this, as well as asking if you need to cross on green or red.
Also note that there is a limit to how much of the medication you can bring with you into Norway this way. If you need more than one week’s worth, you’ll need the *legeerklæring* (and even with it, you’ll only get one month).
