I think arguments like this from conservatives are extremely dangerous. The problem with arguing semantics and originalism with the constitution is it ignores everything that’s been legally built upon the intentionally broad document over time and through past rulings. We’re essentially talking about destroying contemporary society.
The broad implications of this ruling could essentially ‘defang’ our institutions. Except for SCOTUS of course, whose power seems only to be expanding…
SCOTUS all in on corruption.
Bought and paid for.
Gee, I wonder how the most corrupt scotus EVER is going to vote 🙄
>If the SEC’s administrative enforcement powers are unconstitutional, he [Deputy Solicitor General Brian Fletcher] said, so too might be similar enforcement powers at some 34 federal agencies, from the Food and Drug Administration to the National Transportation Safety Board and the Social Security Administration
What does he think is the whole point of the GOP here? Of course that’s what they want. SCOTUS has already been axing away at regulatory powers.
The conservatives are only good at tearing things down, they have no idea how to govern or build anything.
the sec is toothless already, working to affect an illusion of investor safety, when its record shows it to be compromised to the benefit of hedge funds and corrupt billionaires like Ken Griffin (a huge trump supporter). i’m conflicted.
as seen in the gme fiasco of 2021, when regular investors are on the brink of windfall profits snatched from the pockets of billionaires who made unwise short bets, the sec does nothing to ensure they’re protected.
Dems need to start working again to find a workaround to this catastrophic situation of these fascist judges
Oh, the corruption is magnificent and delicious, as expected, the sweet ripe fruit of 2016. Bring back Teapot Dome!
They will end up getting ripped off themselves and cry without SEC.
The Republican Party is not into that whole “governing” thing.
Seems like a good time to remember that the Republicans have won the popular vote for the presidency once since 1988, but here we are with six conservative justices.
Corruption.
So no oversight of anything? What exactly is the point of the government in the SC’s mind if they aren’t able to govern? And since the government has no authority to regulate anything that means the Supreme Court has no authority either. So fuck ’em.
The repercussions will be breathtaking. The fallout will extend to multiple government offices. What SCOTUS believes will happen is not a workable solution and will start the steep downward spiral to no government control. That sounds good to the anarchist, but society is about to fall apart in a major way. Start preparing for the next violent end of a society out of control, maybe with another civil war. All courtesy of the current brain dead blinded SCOTUS.
You can buy anything in this world…with money
The supreme court has never been granted the power of judicial review, not in the constitution, not in law. Its a power it granted itself, and if they want to play originalism games, its a power that should be ignored. Not a single one of these rulings is issued with power granted by the consituiton.
The Republican golden age for criminals.
This is why a Republican winning the presidency in the next 30 years will be the end of the Untied States as we know it.
Owners of the Republican brand, the greediest of the wealthiest, and the politicians in which they invest do not work for “we, the people” — they work for themselves. May karma bite them where it hurts most.
So, what they would like is for the entire financial system to collapse? Sure, no rules makes it easy for people to cheat, but it also means there’s no stability in the system. Anyone or any entity with money, real money, who are looking for secure investments, are not going to keep their money in the United States.
Well that’s horrifying
We’re pretty much in the end game already, Conservatives already won with Citizens United and 2016 it seems. We’re just basically playing out chess endgame with one player at a massive disadvantage.
And another giant step backwards and towards more wealth disparity. Super.
Agencies literally need to be able to enforce shit because congress could never possibly deal with every little issue that each agency specializes in. Especially in such a polarized political climate, NOTHING would get done
I guess *Anyone* would be permitted to call themselves a broker/ dealer in the absence of the SEC… That should be fun!
Trump already fucked America for 40 years with his first term Supreme Court picks.
If it remotely helps Christian fundamentalists or billionaires, get ready for ‘precedent’ to be ‘created’

The [Imperial Supreme Court](https://harvardlawreview.org/forum/vol-136/the-imperial-supreme-court/) will most certainly take power away from the administration and give it to themselves.
This is what they do.
