  1. I didn’t often agree with his politics, but 70 is no age to die. Thoughts with his friends and family.

  2. Bumped into him in the BA Heathrow lounge once, seemed like a nice guy. As a politician I admired him a lot.

  3. Didn’t expect that. Love him or loath him, he’s been one of the most influential figures in Scottish politics in recent years. 70 is far too young.

  4. Not my political cup of tea at all but an undoubted giant of UK and Scottish politics who was liked and respected by many, across the spectrum. RIP

  5. Huh. Seems quite sudden, 70 certainly is no age. Thoughts with his closest.

  6. Jeez they’re all popping off – has God got a budget to clear or something?

  7. That’s pretty young. Sad for his family and friends and his legacy for effectively helping to save the global economy in 2008 should never be forgotten. Probably the last great Chancellor we’ve had.

  8. Loathed him during the referendum, but nothing against him as a person.
70 is no age to go these days shame for himself and his family.

  9. Whatever you think about him, he also voted to slaughter Iraqi children by the bus load

  10. Unexpected and quite young for someone for who seemed in alright shape.

Not a fan of his beliefs but he didn’t come across as someone with a big ego (unlike Brown)

  11. Chancellor Darling?

Funny name for a guy isn’t it?
