Terrible news for the GOP. No new voters in ~20 years.
Goodness, how are there still lead pipes? Where I live they were banned from 1910, like 113 years ago, and have all since been removed as one cannot renovate a property without their replacement. Cities and towns replaced the last of them for general service lines in the 1920’s.
New culture war just dropped.
SCOTUS rules in favor of lead pipe manufacturers.
Good. Some things we did in history when we didn’t know any better, such as running what we drink through lead pipes and breathing the air from burned coal. Now we know better.
Between this (meaning, not prohibiting this until now) and weed being federally illegal… It does not paint a great picture on the quality of decisions we are making as a society
…There are still lead pipes in our water systems??
How is this not already done you know before we buy more tanks and aircraft carriers?
~~’about time given the leaded gasoline voting party~~ good step
Sadly the issue will be not enough skilled labor to undertake a task like this. The skilled labor (especially in plumbing & municipal work) is deepening every year and no one is talking about it.
So, let’s talk about this.
It’s a decent idea, but probably not worth the money it will cost. Properly treated, lead pipes are fine – the problem in Michigan was that they weren’t properly treated.
From a public health/epidemiological perspective, the biggest problems on childhood lead are legacy lead-based paint and contaminated soil from our years of using lead as a fuel additive. These are much, much more expensive and much, much more difficult to fix … but every dollar spent yields a lot more benefit.
I grew up in soviet union and have never seen a lead pipe in my life.
US is very strange with some things
Now we’re going to get “think pieces” about how Big Water is hiding the truth about the health benefits of lead, aren’t we?
Can’t wait for the inevitable GOP meltdown—now they want to take away your lead pipes!? The audacity!
Wait til the Supreme Court guts the EPA.
Soon to be one of those bizarre Boomer t-shirts with about a paragraph of text on the back in different fonts:
“I only
**DRINK WATER OUT OF HOSES**
which are CONNECTED to *lead pipes*
and lined with *MERCURY*
filtered through ***BOOT STRAPS***”
My city just did this and it cost millions of dollars. I can’t imagine the total cost for the whole country, but it would be in the tens of billions.
Should happened decades ago.
Now they are coming after my lead pipes. /s
OMG what year is it?
Lead. Cute. I live in a city where **wooden pipes** get dug up every once and a while.
The people most affected by lead pipes probably can’t read that well due to lead pipes.
The same EPA Republicans plan to do away with! If they succeed, which agency will be responsible for such projects?
Let’s fucking go. Thats a lot of jobs and we help every single American. Literally zero downsides.
Removing lead pipes from our infrastructure is way too fucking woke for today’s republicans! I’m sure half of them live with lead piped water anyways. No sense!
The WaR oN LeAd PiPeS. “They are coming for your pipes! They think pipes are evil!”
Cut to next year’s CPAC where instead of water bottles all the attendees are drinking out of dirty decaying old lead pipes they dug up out of the their backyards and wearing “Come And Take It” flag shirts with a lead pipe instead of a cannon.

You mean… There isn’t one already?
Good grief.
