Amsterdam’s “stay away” campaign fails to stop British tourists

  1. I always thought this was a xenophobic to target one group of people. I wonder if that would be the case if they were of a different religion or skin tone?

I also think you can’t make drugs, hookers and a party culture, make money from them and then complain about the fact tourists cause problems when off their tits.

If you don’t want rowdy tourists don’t supply them with things that will encourage rowdiness, it’s rather simple.

  2. Spend decades advertising the place as a drug, alcohol and prostitution hub only to be pissed off when people travel there for drugs, alcohol and hookers.

  3. You put legal prostitution and drugs on the brochure and it is going to be pretty hard to change peoples mind about coming to your country. They might as well add casinos and accept their fate.

  4. “it must be good if they don’t want to share”

  5. y’all just made a place with a reputation for ‘the forbidden’ *way more* fucking attractive by telling folks to stay away.

  6. If you don’t want tourists then raise taxes on the tourism industry, complaining that people come is pointless.

  7. Iv been somewhere between 10- 20 times and Iv never drunk any booze. I’m there for weed and those cheese pastry swirl things you get at the supermarkets.

  8. Acquire a reputation for decadence and debauchry then censure tourists for partaking? Excellent logic.

  9. What’s Amsterdam actually got going for it besides its reputation as somewhere to party? I’ve never seen the appeal, personally.

  10. The target market typically aren’t paying much attention to travel notices or campaigns.

  11. The solution is to ask non Dutch for ID cards and charge Brits double the price of locals.

  12. Sounds about right.

Was in Amsterdam very recently and loved the place but whenever there was a crowd of extremely rowdy and drunk people they always seemed to have very distinct regional British accents

  13. We used to invade countries and steal the artefacts and resources – now we enjoy your lovely beer, delicious drugs and hospitable sex workers

  14. Is this the thanks we get for liberating the Dutch?????

  15. No shock there – even with the famously high accommodation costs, it’s not far at all and you can get flights for pittance.

Even booking for travel in the next few weeks you can get a return for under a £100, and if you then look into Jan/Feb… there’s still £22 fares available. Sure the bag etc is added on if need be but the point it, so long as it’s so close and so cheap to get there… You’re not gonna stop British people coming!

LCCs and even KLM have made huge efforts to do regional direct flights so you absolutely have Brits thinking ‘I fancy a cheeky weekend away… where can I go?’ and bosh, Amsterdam is quick to get to and good value to fly.

  16. Visa’s for Brits and only 1 in 10 actually gets one. Problem solved.

  17. The British are very welcome in Dublin. Provided they’re not here to invade. The Dutch are turning their backs on visitors and have a very stuck up attitude lately. It’s insane how an entire country can change like that.

  18. oh the british tourists… just came back from Amsterdam, in the span of 2 hours i’ve witnessed two fights between locals and drunken/high brits; both initiated by brits, both against business owners

EDIT: the brits are downvoting, salty boiiiiiiis

  19. Whats it called when a group of people are negativley targeted for their nationality?

  20. You cant even stop african “refugees” and think you can stop British…

  21. I mean tbf just make it more expensive for us and it’ll be the rah where’s my baccy crowd and not chavs going.

  22. I remember as a kid there were daily news every summer about British tourists getting shit faced, and they were vandalizing cars and other people’s property.
