This seems like a good idea, all things considered, I’m not sure if Argentina would gain much from throwing in with Russia and India, at least not at the present moment.
It seems like joining BRICS would come with strings.
(Edit: To be fair, joining a western coalition would probably come with strings, too, but that’s not the subject of the article.)
No civilized country should associate itself with Russia or China (or their allies) in any way. Those tyrannical regimes are the biggest threats to world peace, democracy and freedom.
who would want to assiciate with Argentina now after milei´s election anyway?
First Algeria, now Argentina, why does the universe keep getting in the way of the SCARIB acronym that’s just waiting to happen?
BRICS is pretty much DOA.
I mean… they got the biggest debt from the IMF.
It would be interesting to join BRICS bloc and ask for some belt and road money lol.
USA would flip their shit that’s for sure.
Also BRICS is so dysfunctional in goals, there aren’t any unified goal. replace the USD is not a unified goal when they all want their currency to be the de facto. It’s also lip service too since their consumer economy is small and you have to become a trade deficit nation. Also they don’t want EU style currency because they want to be in power of currency.
I have no stance on Argentina’s membership, except to suggest that right now in this time of crisis introversion is probably a better idea than an ambitious foreign policy
Surprising only people who know nothing of Argentina.
BRICS is basically China + some countries that want to be important but can’t, because they are too poor. And given that China and India are almost rivals, there is no future where BRICS will be more than just useless summits and dinners.
not surprising since they’re looking to dollarize their economy and BRICS is just the “We don’t like America” club. kinda hard to be in that club if you need to get your hands on as many dollars as possible. they need money not rhetoric, and they don’t need BRICS to get money. the only one in BRICS with money to spare is China anyway.
Less the better.
BRICS is and always has been vaporware. Mostly used nowadays by low-information voters who saw an IG post and tell all their friends the dollar is ending.
wise decision.
Nice. Well done Argentina.
One of the goals of BRICS is de-dollarization. One of the stated goals of the incoming Argentinian President is to stabilize Argentina through dollarization. Seems like staying away from BRICS is in line with what he stated during his campaign.
