I’m on mobile, so it’s difficult to provide a full english translation. Apologies.
Gratis bestaat niet
This might be the first time I agree with Weyts in about half a year. It’s also recommended to brush your teeth but you ain’t getting free tubes of toothpaste from school, right? It’s like €3.5/(child*week), or €1 if you meet the higher repayment criteria.
Free does not exist
Akkoord.
I mean, considering the fact there’s not 4 days of work from home for teachers and students, it’d be nice to have some sort of compensation. Be it less expensive tests, masks, or something else like my holidays in ICU.
Masks are there because you can’t just get rid of Covid, OK. Tests would be of no use if I didn’t need to take such high risk contacts everyday due to the government’s decisions.

Looks like the most logical outcome to me… Seems like a typical case off “ivoren toren politiek” not to see this coming.
I wonder how much parents will test their children, if its 1) not for free ; 2) knowing some parents are already not willing to put a stick in their child’s nose because of it might hurt / traumatize them (not my personal opinion by the way).
In my case, we’ve all just had Corona (although fully vaxed – I am happy I was because I think it would have made me suffer more if I wasn’t ) , and we are healthy again. If it’s true what they say, we should be Corona free for the next 6 months, so is it even necessary to do this tests in our case?
Other small note, my dad was tested positive at the same time as we did. He had a PCR test and was waiting for the results (+1 day waiting). In meanwhile he took a self test. Self test came out negative, PCR test, he took with a minimum of difference in time turned out positive. I probably wouldn’t be that sceptic about these selftests when it wasn’t one of my family members who experienced this. But since it happened to my dad I have absolutely no trust in these self tests, and no intention to use them (unless maybe before visiting people in a vulnerable position). Beside this I absolutely try to do my best about this Covid stuff – vaxed, face masks, … I just don’t see the need for this self tests if I have no confidence in the test results from these tests. Seems like a complete waste of money and effort to me tbh (although it might not be a very popular opinion).
He should not provide self tests. He should do everything he can to make classrooms safe(r). I.e., follow the advice of experts and buy and install air purifiers (the good ones), renovate (yeah, I know this is not done in a week, but at least he should have started with i), follow up on promises (free laptops, that are actually _free_), etc.
It is getting harder to not go the ad hominem route with this guy.
Teachers are the mocking stock… underpaid(don’t go with the lots of holidays cuz that’s literally all they have and the wages only rise to €2300 at the end of their career… inflationwise it’s worth nothing.) no ecocheques, no fietsvergoeding if you live under 1,5km from work, no maaltijdcheques, no big eindejaarspremie (it was cut by 33%!!!! This year) no double eindejaarspremie, no healthcare, no bonus for keeping schools running during covid, no masks, no zelftests, no doorgroeimogelijkheden, no respect, no laptop, 20€ in internet vergoeding since this year finally, no paid overwork, no paid meetings after hours, NO FUTURE! They’re making the teachers’ opleiding “aantrekkelijker instead of making the job better?!
Teachers should stop being so “belgianly friendly” and letting gov overrun them like this… they need to go in the street and strike for some time because it won’t get better without doing anythings themselves…
So we have to pay an extra fee for masks we never got, copies we never got, repairs for things that aren’t broken…€75 for software wich actually costs €40. You can buy 6 self-tests with that money.
Bullshit nva take
Good point, give us free masks!

Improve safety in the schools and in the meantime provide tests for the children. Take responsability.
I cannot understand why we are still tolerating this man. He is not only clearly outrageously bad at his job, he takes pride in it too.
Highlights from just the past few months:
With COVID it was with not investing in CO2 monitors with a classic head in sand approach, doing everything to keep the classes open without doing anything to keep outbreaks in check. In fact he’d go out of his way to keep outbreaks going. Being able to be 22 months into a global pandemic without even a hint of a long term plan. Any suggestions that we need that are being chuckled away.
In higher education, a crucial part of our knowledge economy, he proposed a solution that not only would do nothing to fix the problem. Not enough people graduating in three years? Let’s make it harder to do it In four. That’ll fix it.
Just today he’s in the papers pleading for more consistency in COVID regulations. He’s literally in the executive branch of the government. I can understand that people are incompetent but have you ever been so incompetent that you complain about something that’s part of your job? And his people still go: yeah. Bens got a point.
Unimaginable…
