This is the direct result of treating academia like a business
Honestly the 1st or 2nd proposal is probably for the best- it isn’t really smart to spend 4/5 years at university and leave with solely language related qualifications, especially when there’s a whole continent of Europeans that can speak 2 or 3 languages to a high degree of fluency you have to compete with for jobs.
Got an email from the Language department 2 weeks ago, they want to start a drive to send postcards to the University management to try to change their minds. I doubt that will make any difference.
There seems to be a whole in the budget. Something has to give.
