Europe’s politicians are desperate to tackle e-scooters, why aren’t they bothered by monster SUVs?; Transport & Environment

  1. The EU earns around 375 Billion Euro’s annually from Vehicle sales and fuel tax, might be that.

  2. Because monster trucks don’t cause as much of a nuisance as those moronic e-scooters.

  3. Because blind people and grand mas don’t run into my Dodge Ram and there are systems in place to deal with rouge parkers. If you park like a moron, your shit gets towed.

  4. Seeing people in Dublin, Ireland driving Ford Rangers and Raptors gives me second hand embarrassment.
They legitimately don’t fit on some country roads.
Also they have tiny beds so the excuse of needing it “to haul stuff” is bullshit and your average tradesman over here sure as shit ain’t using it as a work vehicle.

  5. Considering you’d get from the mass of 1 overinflated car at least 20 e-rollers, it seems more dangerous. (Supposing of course the SUVers and e-rollerists are the same kind of imbecile idiots, which according to my experiences are not far away from the truth.)

  6. Yeah we should legalise e scooters and ban monster SUV’s. Think of the environment people!!

  7. An escooter is cheap and requires little money to maintain. This opens up ways for the poor to spread more and have more chances in general, which is a no no for modern society

  8. All they need to do is put some rules around using them such as speed limiters, lights, where they can be used like bikes etc and then there would be less problems. Now though there is nothing and people do what they want.

On the whole though I don’t see them as being a problem. Most people I come across with them are riding them normally and its only very occasionally that someone is weaving through the crowds by the shops. But that’s no different than it is for bikes and there are a lot more of them about.

  9. Escooters riders are not obeying rules. They ride on curbs and do not wear helmets. I really hate those scooters every time I have to jump away from their way to not be hit and it happens a lot especially with drunk tourists and teens.

  10. Are trucks even an issue in Europe? I rarely see them on the road and are usually sold to businesses or people that actually need them.

Scooters just need enough regulation so that they don’t get thrown on the side of the road, which doesn’t happen if people actually own them.

  11. There’s no “big scooter” that holds up the economy.

  12. Because fullsize trucks are relatively pricy and out of the reach of majority of the people.

E-scooters? Dirt cheap imports from china so yeah, everyone and their mother can have them.

  13. My thoughts exactly! They are a menace in so many ways (the actual cause of an increase in pedestrian deaths, auto deaths, etc.) and yet you see them more and more every year in Europe. In Spain where I live part time the parking spaces and garages are not even suitable for them. You can’t even drive them on some roads. I hate these things.

  14. Yes, it’s so terrible to have affordable clean and effortless transportation for the masses that doesn’t cause damage to infrastructure and pollute the air. Horrible indeed. And while we’re at it can we also ban those freeloaders who bike or even, hear this, *walk* too?

  15. Because generally car drivers aren’t running around jumping red lights, hitting people on pavements, etc etc

  16. I mean isn´t it at least partly because majority of locals hate the E-scooters? And especially the sharing platforms?

At least from my own experience, locals in Prague hate them since the sharing ones just get in the way in the city. And even if they are personal E-scooters they are fast and silent so quite problematic on sidewalks and other walking infrastructure.

So I would say that in many cases it is push from populace which doesn´t like them and this populace sadly doesn´t have such issues with the SUVs.

  17. Because not everyone has a huge SUV pickup, yet lime and bolt scooters are cluttering everywhere

  18. e-scooters travel in pedestrian right-of-ways is the actual reason, not the conspiracy theories people are posting in here. Move them out into the street and regulate them like motorcycles and nobody will care anymore.
