I like the song. It has gained a great new meaning after I became a parent myself.
The text of it is from the perspective of a father who is longing for his childhood memories and experiences and wondering where it all went. Lost to time, but find solace in that fact that his own son is living through his own childhood and forging his own future memories. And the father sees this as a proof his own childhood is not yet lost to time, since his son is following his exact footsteps.
The whole lyrics hit different once you are no longer the kid, but suddenly in the same position of the father figure from the song.
