  1. >The claimants allege the three governing bodies failed to put in place reasonable measures to protect the health and safety of players

Is there specific measures that could be put in place that aren’t being? I’d have assumed that it was just a risk of the sport.

  2. I mean rugby is obviously not great for your body. They can’t be overly surprised.

  3. People saying ‘they knew the risks!’ – no player as a teenager even thought pursuing this as a career would give them brain damage. If the RFU had any evidence/suspicion that there were links between playing and head injuries and they did nothing…. Well then they have been negligent…

  4. The possibility of the sport in its current form disappearing entirely is starting to look, not likely exactly, but certainly possible.

  5. The big timebomb problem is we’re learning now that it doesn’t even need to be actual head impacts themselves – any action that suddenly accelerates or decelerates the body can lead to the brain rocking inside the skull and, long term, those sub-concussive impacts can add up to CTE and increased risk of dementia even if you felt fine at the time.

Rugby as a game is fundamentally based around full body tackling of this nature which rapidly decelerates the body.

It’s hard to see the sport in its current form having a long term future for or grandchildrens generation as we learn more about CTE and sub-concussive impacts.

  6. They were on the receiving and giving ends of many concussions I am sure.

  7. Playing a sport where you’re expect to bash your heads against other people. No shit you’re getting permanent brain damage

  8. I have injuries from rugby, which I have worsened greatly in the gym.

  9. Dress them up in padded Knights armor and have them become medi evil armies running into eachother.

Sport is saved and cooler than ever.

  10. It’s great that these ex players are taking the action they are and I hope they get the compensation they deserve. The cat is well and truly out of the bag now so I wonder when the additional “I undertake this sport knowing the risks and personally accept full responsibility for any consequences” line gets hidden in new contracts..
