While I think they should obviously require the use of detectors, according to this abstract, that’s roughly the same rate that occurs at hotels/motels in the states, except the Airbnb numbers appear to be worldwide:

If a rental doesn’t have a detector, I head out to purchase one. My family is not staying anywhere without a CO detector.
It really wouldn’t bother me if I died from CO in an AirBnB, because I’d be dead.
You can bump it up to 3 people a year if you don’t make me wash dishes AND pay the cleaning fee
19 in ten years over probably millions of rents. Isn’t that actually a really high success?
Carbon monoxide is simply not a problem everywhere, and mandating that everyone go out and buy detectors would be an enormous waste, both of detectors and their batteries. 19 deaths in 10 years for such a massive amount of renting is actually really low. They should instead mandate that properties that use gas in any way need detectors.
That sounds very low. Probably a similar number of people died because they ran through a window that they thought was an open door. Should we ban full length windows?
Unfortunately there are no alarms against ignorance… how can someone start a fireplace or use some gas/burning heater without ventilation and think he is going to survive through the night?
Reminds me of the warning to not put cats in the microwave..
Why hasn’t Airbnb been sued into oblivion yet? They don’t verify permits either. A guy in Montreal had an Airbnb that wasn’t permitted for short-term rentals and had also failed safety inspections. The building caught fire and 7 people died.
2 people in a year, wow great success. The only house that had a detector I’ve stayed also had a fireplace.
Im sure more people have died in airbnbs in 10 years from like idk tension pneumothorax?
I bring one of my nest protects with me whenever my family stay anywhere. I don’t trust people to do the right thing
Study conducted by Hilton science foundation.
19 in 10 years?? How many rentals is that?? Google says there’s 356 million guests stays per year. Or 1.8 billion since 2008.
That’s 0.0000010555556% over 15 years.
While I totally agree that all homes, including short term rentals, should have carbon monoxide detectors, their statistics actually look much better than I expected. I’m guessing more guests die tripping on the sidewalk or stairs at Airbnbs than from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Fucking WHAT
There are small battery powered carbon monoxide detectors available for sale. Quite packable.
Airbnb is another ripoff corporation. It is as simple as that.
Mandate them to require detectors? lol they can’t even respect places where they’re illegal to operate.
Aren’t they required for a CO in most residential areas?
That’s a really tiny fraction.
Did Airbnb get sued for those deaths?
19 in ten years. More people prolly died falling down steps in ABBs. This is an anomaly and not worth time.
