Actually Switzerland will do this on nearly all the walls alongside highways and in addition install solar roof on all the highway rest areas. This has been prepared with a national tender process in 2022/2023. For all regions and highway sections, concessions have been assigned in June this year, technical planning is under way.
It will be interesting to see just how much energy these panels actually generate in this nearly vertical configuration. They’re giving up a lot of summertime generation capacity in order to maximize winter gain with the steep angle. This could pay dividends in terms of generating more power when most other installations are generating less.
