  1. He has the head of about 50 Irish lads I met in Australia. Connoisseurs of GAA and pints too in addition to the occasional brawl

  2. Assume assault causing harm is the most serious charge? Violent disorder less serious?

Both say max 10 years. Assume also now he’ll get off with a fine and a suspended sentence. Searching there it seems he could very easily have been sent down if found guilty of assault causing harm.

Any legal experts here who can clarify sentencing?

  3. am I right in thinking he also ran away from Gardai at the time too? So he didn’t get any additional charge for evading arrest?

  4. Multiple witnesses and CCTV evidence, it pays to be friends with a billionaire

  5. John Mullane:

A threat was made to take me out and kill me. As a result I feared I was going to be attacked. I struck David Keating in the face, but did not intend to strike him with my glass which was in my hand.”

    Found not guilty

  6. Lucky he didn’t have a fivers worth of weed on him, he’d have got 12 years.

  7. The guards did everything they could here, the two testifying gave pretty damning statements of the incident. It sounded like an assault to me but I’ve no idea what the distinction is between the two.

  8. He’ll have a criminal record, likely probation, and a fine of a few grand.

Is it enough? Absolutely not. Is it mortifying and scary for Hayes? I’m sure. So I make myself feel better by thinking he’s shitting it, having assumed he’d be let off with a not-guilty verdict.

  9. Seems ridiculous that Guards and witnesses can all give evidence that he was seen kicking and punching someone on the ground (after following him outside) and he isn’t charged with assault! If that was an average person they’d be looking at jail time.

  10. Was there even a point or having a trial? We all knew he wasn’t gonna get done for the serious charge

  11. There is no way you can convince me that there isn’t bribery and co-conspiracies going on in the courts.

We can be appalled at Israel continuing the war but not the destruction and loss of safety of Ireland.

  12. Would be a real shame if some lad done him on the pitch. Would hate to see it

  13. Sure there’s plenty of fights that happen outside nightclubs, the only reason this has gone on so long is because of who he is and barristers dragging the case out for more money.

  14. A Dublin player did something similar a number years back and was still allowed to play on with club and county.

It seems like Gaa players are protected under the letter of the law.

No wonder you see all sorts of bedlam on the pitch and the refs kindly waving yellow cards for fun.

Until the law on the pitch and off it comes down hard on foul play you’ll see a lot more of these incidents become common place in the real world sadly.

  15. Trials of GAA players should have juries flown in from overseas with no knowledge of Irish society.

  16. Despite witnesses, CCTV & guard’s statements he got away with it…embarrassing but that’s GAA privilege!

  17. The fact he has to live a life with that ugly mug is punishment enough, absolute state of him, he’s like somethin out of Chernobyl

  18. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him have to serve some sort of a prison sentence. It’s fairly serious to get found guilty of 2 counts of violent disorder in the circuit court. It’s definitely not how I thought it would go.

Will Kiely get rid of him now?

  19. Is there a higher privilege in Ireland than the “he played county” privilege?

  20. Kicked the absolute shit of a guy, resisted arrest, told a Garda to fuck off and then ran from Gardai. If he gets a suspended sentence for that, it’s a joke. But we might go to jail for not paying our tv licence. Wtf is going on in this country?

  21. Did anyone seriously think he wouldn’t get off. Unfortunately this is Ireland where its who you are not what you done that counts it was always the same.

  22. Is it just me or can you always tell if someone is a shitty person from their eyes? Like a deadness in the eyes or something..cos this guy’s eyes give off that vibe if you ask me..just an expression that lacks any kind of empathy or compassion

  23. ah hes a good lad who loves the gaa, judge will probably fist bump him on the way out

  24. Wow its true, play G.a.a and you get to get awayaa..

  25. I wish we had a resident expert on Reddit that could come on and explain who or why the jury would have come to this decision and what factors drive it.

Wasn’t there a third garda who said he knew him but couldn’t place him as they guy swinging kicks, I wonder was that the key.
