I think all of these photos are from Austria. My grandfather took them in the 1970s. I’m curious if I’m missing a town or city in the post title, or if any of these aren’t from Austria.
edit: picture 5 was the summer home of grandfather’s family, before it was confiscated in 1938. It’s in Altaussee.
Maybe I am just melancholic but everything seemed to be so calm back then
That’s right, one pic is in Carinthia… Maria Wörth, a beautiful little church on a lands tongue in the Wörthersee.
You are right on Wörthersee. Image 10 is Maria Wörth.
Image 18 and 19 are taken near Bad Aussee.
Very nice photos!
Anyone recognize the church tower in the firs pic?
Erinnert mich an meine Kindheit
Just if anyone is wondering. The first picture is made in Meran, a city in South Tyrol, which is in northern Italy
Most of them seem like recent photos with a bunch of filters applied.
Thanks for posting this! So nostalgic.
do you by any chance know which camera your grandpa used? image quality seems amazing for the time
As an Austrian who moved away ,I really miss the mountains in Tirol 😭
I recognize Hallstatt, Altaussee, Gosausee and a view towards Steeg-Gosau. (and ofc Salzburg)
Pictures 7, 8, 16, 17 are definitely Hallstatt in Upper Austria.
Picture 15 might be ~~Hallstätter See or~~ Gosausee, the glaciered mountain in the background is definitely the Dachstein massif.
Pictures 18 and 19 feature the mountain Loser, which is next Altaussee in Styria.
~~Picture 13 might be Gosau in Upper Austria, but I’m not sure. I haven’t been there in a while.~~
Picture 23 rings a bell, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. ~~Either Mondsee or~~ Wolfgangsee I’d say [Apperently St. Gilgen]. Special mention to the Kreisky campaign poster in that pic. This narrows down the possible years of origin to 5 different years. I think it kinda looks like [this one](http://kreisky100.at/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/kreiskywersonst.jpg), so that would be 1975.
Edit: corrections.
Any information on the (lack of) restitution? Seems like your grandfather’s family was part of the upper middle-class before they were forced to flee. What happened to the house in Altaussee?
War früher alles besser?
Ja, war es.
1st picture: Meran, South Tyrol
4th, 13th picture: Kirchbichl, Tyrol
7th, 8th, 16ht, 17th: Hallstatt, Upper Austria
10th: Maria Wörth, Carinthia
15th: Vorderer Gosausee with Dachstein Glacier
18th, 19th: Altaussee (Loser mountain in the background)
21st: View from Pötschenkehre towards the northern end of Hallstättersee
23rd: St Gilgen am Wolfgangsee
24th, 25th, 26th: Salzburg
27th, 28th, 29th: Getreidegasse, Salzburg
Many of these views will look about the same today, maybe except for the addition of some satellite dishes.
Eigentlich hat si nix verändert
Picture 2 shows the Jaufenpass. It’s a famous route to take when you travel from Innsbruck to Meran or vice versa. [This](https://maps.app.goo.gl/gLNbZT18WABpKdW19) should be the exact spot where he stood when he took the picture.
Typisch österreich, hat sich immer noch nichts verändert XD
