2. I’m surprised ukraine soldiers would still try to surrender. We have seen many instances of pow getting killed, tortured and apperently now pootpoot wants to use pows as a meatshield army.

I’m full UA, but devils advocate… if this was the other way around: UA on RU… the second soldier coming out of the trench was moving towards the enemy, clambering or crawling for whatever reason… such a move instigates fear of grenades or other hidden weapons and in this high tension situation would only mean getting lit up, even if it was the pope pointing a gun at you. The soldier who crawled out first then starts making moves to run or something so is smoked too, standard procedure.

   Honestly, if this was UA on RU we’d be looking at this a totally different way.

9. Putting the moral repugnance we feel to one side – how, tactically, does this help the Russians? Surely they would want Ukrainians to surrender instead of stiffening their resolve to resist? If any enemy knows that he’ll be killed if he tries to surrender, then he’ll just fight on. Also, two captured enemies become bargaining pawns. Probably the question that most needs to be asked is, is this an example of rank and file ill discipline, or a specific command handed out by an officer? Whichever it is, it shows a lack of professionalism in the Russian forces – as if we didn’t know this already.
