  1. Hello OP, could you link a source please for approval? thank you

  2. And Australia and New Zealand are British, and so European, offshoots. 9/10 really

  3. The EU is rapidly drifting towards the far-right. In 10 years it will probably not be as democratic. Europe looks eerily similar to Europe of 1930s nowadays with liberal demoracy losing ground everywhere.

I remember when Jorg Haider joined the Austrian cabinet in the early 2000, everyone went total ape and the EU combined basically kicked him out of the cabinet. It was such a big deal back then. Now it has become completely normal for kinds of Le Pen, Wilders, Orban and AfD to win elections and rule.

  4. democracy is not a goal. Democracy is a means to an end.

  5. Ireland may be a full democracy but the government really wants to be tyrannical

  6. It seems all are small, prosperous, and relatively homogeneous. Sounds like good conditions for democracy to thrive.

  7. As if democracy would be mostly a European thing, after all…

  8. This list is indisputable and entirely accurate. However, Ireland is currently considering a concerning “hate speech” bill. Should it be passed, it will pose significant issues. It’s evident that the major countries in the EU have gone astray, as there is a noticeable lack of free speech in these areas.

  9. Nordic countries would be top 5 if it weren’t for new Zealand.

  10. if we’re the goal i’m concerned for the rest of the list. things are not looking good brev

  11. God damn Denmark, every poll they’re one ahead of us.

  12. In reality is more complicated. They are form of democracy where the two major parties have a guarantee to win and do anything they want as same as IF it was a dictatorship.

People keep voting for the same party for life. Two major parties build as a result. Nothing changes. Politicians do whatever they want , have no consequences.

Ireland voting system is the most advanced I think. Very mathematical and cool !

  13. Taiwanese here. I think our improvement in rank might have something to do with third parties rising in power and therefore the country deviating from a two-party system. I, for one, am certainly happy to see the increased diversity in representation in the parliament.

  14. Any politicos wanna tell a dummy why a Swiss direct democracy can be lower ranked than the others?

  15. Anyone else find it a wee bit amusing that it’s a 50/50 split between republics and monarchies.

  16. Lol Australia at P9.

Nowhere near a democracy when an investigative journalist gets his home fire bombed for showing corruption in the gambling cabal and government

    Bruz…

  17. Hi who is down for meet up sex

  18. this graph is false information. i know for a fact representative democracy is dismissing majority of the population and most of these countries dont have free media. no way they would rank higher than switzerland that have actual full autonomous democracy

  19. Taiwan being up there just goes to show how unreliable this list is

  20. Yeah but most representative democracies and not direct democracies like Switzerland.

  21. Would not rate Australia that high, their media is far from neutral and there is tight corporation control of politics.

  22. Almost all of them are parliamentary democracies, which prove that the separation of powers and checks and balance doctrines under presidential systems has never ever worked, especially in Latin American countries.

  23. No country on this earth is democratic.
There is a big difference between bourgeois democracy and actual democracy.

  24. Congratulations to France for no longer being a ‘flawed democracy’ by this index. I have no idea how the UK scores highly given no one voted for our head of state or prime minister, but I guess most economist journalists are British

  25. Quite funny that Switzerland, country that has referendums about color of your mittens, IS NOT the most democratic country in the world.

  26. Taiwan’s crying for help. Please let’s not let them down.

  27. Sweden will change its name to the “Islamic Republic of Sweden” in about ten years.
