Anyone old enough to recognize this thing? Found in my grandparents attic but they haven’t been here long enough for it to be theirs? Is “Youngers tartan special ale” still around?

  1. I have drank many pints of it. I switched away from “heavy” a long time ago but it and many others were on tap next to the lager in the pub and went out of fashion. 70 shilling and 80 shilling too

  2. This beer was produced up until the late 1990s but it’s recently been revived by a different company who purchased the brand.

  3. That’s quite a recent one as had a ring pull top. I remember the ones where you had a special type of tin opener that punctured the top.

  4. Mid to late 70s it was one of the cheap drinks of choice for a football special trip. Always on offer at London termini.

  5. I used to drink that and Bass Special exclusively when I was about 16. When I lived in London I was delighted to find it was sold in the Off licence with the name changed to “Tartan Bitter”.

  6. I only saw the caption in my notifications, I was getting ready to explain what a vcr was.

  7. I am happy to be wrong (again).

I had thought heavy and special were both 70/

  8. Didn’t remember the company name but, yeah, I remember Tartan Special

  9. I remember it well, fucking awful stuff, cheapest of the cheap, my Dad worked in the brewry and he told me all the dregs from all the decent beers where combined and caramel was added for taste and colouring for Tartan Special.

  10. One of the first alcoholic drinks I tasted as my Dad would let myself and my brothers have fly swigs when my mum was out the room.

  11. I’m thinking 70s based on some very hazy memories from my childhood

  12. I remember there was a crate of it in the cellar of my grandpas pub for about 10 years haha, dont think it sold very well.
