## Match Summary:
Newcastle wear their black and white striped tops with black shorts and white socks. United are in their red tops, white shorts, and black socks.
**1 minute:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedOnana jeered immediately. The ball goes all the way back to the United keeper, and the Newcastle fans are quick to let Onana know his every move will be under scrutiny at St James’ Park. His footwork is good, and the ball is passed out of defence by the away team.
**2 minutes:** Newcastle United 0-0 Manchester UnitedRashford on the right for United. United are pressing high with a front four but need to be careful as Newcastle break beyond the pressure from the attacks and move swiftly down their left. United had Mainoo and McTominday deep and manage to slow the home side before the four attackers recover their ground. Garnacho looks to have made the left his own for the Red Devils.
**4 minutes:** Newcastle United 0-0 Manchester UnitedOnana flaps. The first corner goes to Newcastle, and the ball is swung in close to Onana. The United keeper flaps with both arms waving like wings but doesn’t get anywhere near the ball and is relieved as a defensive header clears it.
**7 minutes:** Newcastle United 0-0 Manchester UnitedThe goal nearly opens up for Guimaraes. It’s Newcastle’s turn to enjoy some early possession. The ball drops to Guimaraes in the area, who swings a foot at it, but it hits a red shirt in front of him. Dalot then takes the ball off his own keeper, and, in doing so, the ball bounces up onto his hand. Newcastle fume even more about Tuesday’s penalty in Paris as their appeals are waved away.
**9 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedGarnacho finds space. United move straight up the other end, and Garnacho has his man one-on-one but can only get a soft shot away, and Pope saves with his feet in the Newcastle goal. The Argentinean has another moment a minute later and dribbles into the box, but Newcastle shut the door.
**12 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedA fast start for both. The tempo is good from both teams to begin. Isak is the latest forward to attempt to find space in the box. His shot is blocked by Dalot, though, and Onana is quick to stop the ball dribbling for a corner. He has to be alert with his feet soon after as United build at the back once again under high pressure from Newcastle.
**15 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedOnana makes an excellent save. Almiron gets his shot away inside the box, and Onana makes a fine save low to his right as the ball is angled across him. That will settle any nerves the United keeper may have had.
….
**32 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedBest passing move by United. The away side has the ball high up the park, and Fernandes chips it to Wan-Bissaka, who volleys the ball across, but it’s tame and too close to Pope.
Immediately up the other end and it’s Almiron’s turn to try to bend the ball from inside the area, but it sails high and wide.
**34 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedDangerous position for a Newcastle free kick. Chair wins a free kick after a dribble to the edge of the box. Trippier stands over it 25 yards (23 meters out and just to the left of centre.)
**37 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedTrippier hits the bar. The ball bounces down off the underside of the bar, and Onana collects after Trippier curled the ball, right-footed, over the wall. Onana’s feet were planted to the spot, and he was a spectator along with the rest of us.
**38 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedOnana’s first error. A clearance from the United keeper goes straight into the Newcastle dugout as his passing, albeit under pressure, lets him down for one. The home support expresses their delight again. Great theatre – or pantomime perhaps. It is the right season in England for it.
**41 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedAnother Newcastle corner. The home side breaks down the left, and Maguire blocks the cross at the near post. A moment of alarm for the defender, though, as the ball deflected towards the near post but hits the side netting. The corner goes deep this time, and as it comes back across, United get their blocks in – Maguire again – before clearing.
**44 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedHalf-time. McTominay goes down after a bang to the head, but he is fine to carry on. One minute of stoppage time, and United looks to put some pressure on, but the whistle wasn’t far away. Half-time: Newcastle 0-0 Manchester United
## Match Summary – Half-time
McTominay goes down after a bang to the head, but he is fine to carry on. One minute of stoppage time, and United looks to put some pressure on, but the whistle wasn’t far away. Half-time: Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedHojlund warming up for United. The front line hasn’t found a way into the game for United. Antony is on the bench as well for the away team. It looks as though both sides are unchanged for now. United has been sent out early, and there are plenty of discussions out there – particularly between Fernandes and Martial. Newcastle is on their way now, and kickoff in the second half is just moments away. They’re underway in the second half. No changes from Newcastle either. Nearly an opening for Almiron after a surge from Miley, but the shot is dragged wide.
**46 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedShaw on the spot again. Newcastle attacks down the right, and they’re into the area. The cross comes in from Almiron with Isak awaiting, but Shaw is there to clear for a corner with a last-ditch interception. He and Maguire have been outstanding. Two consecutive corners for the Magpies, and the second is put under the bar by Trippier. Onana confidently punches clear.
**48 minutes:** Newcastle 0-0 Manchester UnitedPressure still on United. Trippier nutmegs Garnacho and finds himself in acres of space on the right. The ball in, however, is disappointing and only finds Fernandes as United clears.

## Goal!
Gordon taps in at the back post as Newcastle slice United open again.
It was a wonderful passing move which finished with Trippier rolling the ball across the six-yard box for a simple chance at the back post.
It’s been coming – for 54 minutes!
**54 minutes: Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United**

**58 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester UnitedOnana rushed again. The United keeper is forced into a rushed clearance, which he puts straight out of play. From the throw-in, Trippier gets in behind, but Onana smothers the cross. United makes a double change with Hojlund on for Martial and Antony replacing Rashford.
…
**73 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester UnitedMaguire booked. The central defender had no choice but to go for the tackle with an overload on the left for Newcastle. Gordon taps the ball clear of the tackle, and had Maguire not taken out his man, then Schar was free having surged forward.
**77 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester UnitedPenalty claim turned down. Wan-Bissaka throws himself in front of Almiron’s close-range shot, and the ball bounces up off his knee to hit his hand. No penalty. The resulting corner is cleared. Reguilon is on for Wan-Bissaka, and Amrabat for Mainoo as ten Hag looks for fresh legs to find a way into this game.
**80 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester UnitedReguilon swings a volley towards the far post and it is dipping in but Schar throws out a leg to block. It was going in and Pope wasn’t getting there.
The Newcastle keeper has injured his shoulder in his effort to dive and play is stopped as he is helped from the field.
Maguire had another swing at the ball after Schar’s block with Pope grounded but again, Newcastle got the block in.
**82 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. Dubravka is on for Pope. Pope is replaced, and there have been a number of delays in this second half so plenty of injury time is expected. Will this be United’s chance after the long pause for the injury.
**86 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. United goal disallowed. Antony swings a volley towards goal, and Maguire, who was still up from a corner, can’t get out of the way – he was in an offside position, and the goal is scratched off.
**89 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. Nine minutes of stoppage time. United looks set to throw everyone forward now. Antony is booked as Gordon looks to break, and the United sub knows he has to bring the Newcastle man down.
**92 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. United corner. Dalot found space on the right, but the cross was cleared for a corner at the near post. It comes to nothing as Newcastle clears.
**94 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. Dubravka stands firm. A free kick on the left for United tests the Newcastle sub in goal, and Dubravka holds on under pressure.
**95 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. Newcastle substitution. Ritchie on for Gordon. United keeps the ball high up the park but can’t find an opening.
**97 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. 1m ago – Amrabat skies the volley. Dalot sends in a long throw from the right, and it comes out to Amrabat on the edge of the box, but the volley flies over.
**98 minutes:** Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United. **Full-time – Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United.** Unlike in Paris, Newcastle holds on for a deserved win.
Full-time: Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United.

Holy shit, we just took an absolute whooping
Can’t wait for mo Salah to score a hatrick and get ETH sacked
First time seeing a legit 0/10 performance from a player.
This Newcastle XI has started the last three games and barely had any rotation in games. They didn’t use a sub on Tuesday against PSG but they strolled round the park as if nothing.
Absolutely damning on United. St James Park was relatively quiet around the 80th minute probably because they knew the game was done and it was playing a lower half team.
Maguire again showed he’s currently the best player for United – without him it could’ve been worse and Onana did well enough with the pressure. Otherwise nothing of note for United.
Rashford needs to have a look at Gordon’s performances because it’s night and day. Even with him being a favourite of Southgate you can’t help but think Gordon is going to play his way into the England squad in the summer over him and the team will be much better for it.
Another squad of individuals shown up by an actual team
ETH has made united worse. And Bruno is the worst captain in the league, all he does is whine to the ref all game.
Nick Pope doing his shoulder completes our injured/suspended starting XI. Fucks sake man! 😂
At least we got the win.
