In my opinion, in a way it did, because it decimated so much of the Russian army, that they are now easy pickings for the operations that Ukraine is carrying out now, in regards to the Dnipro operation, and all of the strikes that Ukraine is now carrying out behind the Russian lines, regarding munitions trains, and destroying drone factories. The Russian army is so stripped bare, that they do not have the defenses anymore to stop those Ukranian strikes.
How do we expect the Ukrainians to have successfully Gaddafied Putin if we haven’t sent them a single pallet of rusty machetes? Biden??? Hello?
Cause mines
Russia was losing so much territory so quickly that we forgot how big their army is.
I know world news is pro Ukraine which I support but there’s no way Ukraine is winning this war.
I think it’s fair to say that it’s an acomplishment alone that Ukraine still manages to stand their ground, while also pushing Russia back in some cases.
Also visual-confirmend losses wise they are stomping Russia at some fronts by a huge margin. (Avdiivka)
But obviously Zelensky is right. People were hoping for more. Cluster ammunition and these (I am not a weapon expert) rocket/shells which allow them to mine stuff from a big range, aswell as himars and storm shadow missles seem to do a lot of work for them, but it’s not enough to “just win” against a former super power which is willing to sacrifice their own whole population for a few kilometres of land.
The russian economy is falling and it seems like they dont have any workers to do to daily normal stuff, even in Moscow where they try to hide their population from the war the most. I hope it reaches a point where it just forces Putin to back down eventually, because the attrition just doesnt make it worth it anymore.
They were kind of a victim of their own success. The counteroffences last year that recaptured Kherson and Kharkiv were spectacular, and pushed everyone’s expectations way too high.
Since then, the Russians have learned to stop underestimating the Ukrainians, and have dug in.
This fight is all about being able to reconstitute fighting forces at this point.
Ukraine wiped out the trained Russian military. Anytime you see videos now it’s guys 50+ years old fighting in trenches getting killed from the sky.
They took too long to get the offensive started, that’s the truth of the matter. They waited and waited for new tanks and by the time they were ready the Russians were dug in.
Should have started earlier, as soon as the Kharkiv push happened.
I’m so confused. I was told that Russia would run out of troops and supplies by the end of March 2022
The don’t have the will or ability to mount an offensive against an actively defended part of the front. From the footage we saw from Kherson and Zaporizhia they didn’t really try, and switched to the attritional style as soon as they met resistance.
In Kherson it worked, Russia was not able to maintain the defence and retreated across the Dnipro. Russia blew up the dam so they could reinforce Zaporizhia and it’s where a lot the fortifications have been built, the situation was different.
It’s hard to train a military while they actively fight a war against a larger enemy. Both countries will face challenges, much depends on the continued support of Western nations.
The one positive was that the talk of a major counter offensive led Russian troops to dig trenches and take a defensive stance instead of trying to advance.
no shit, every unbiased military analyst globally knew this, even the pentagon figured as much which is why they pushed for it to be sped up and done a month prior. The land Russia has taken is most likely the new boarders of Ukraine. Hopefully war stops because and I dont mean this in a pro russian way, just objectively true, outside of foreign military intervention there is no war related resolution to this conflict. The Government that is in power needs to negotiate with Russia for some sort of peace deal, the americans need to stay out of it(they sabotaged any previous attempts) and horrific scenes like what happened in Mariupol need to not happen again. Theres a fuck ton of displaced civilians as well as casualties of war that could have been prevented.
Ukraine will win. The west will see to it
The fact that ukraine is still standing and we are discussing th success of their counter offence is very impressive.
Yeah…Ukraine just doesn’t have the manpower for a counteroffensive. This is going to be one long winter for them
Not surprised, honestly. In addition to ground vehicles, the Ukrainians needed a lot of air support, which has been the defining strength of modern NATO military victories. They just don’t have it yet.
The extensive minefields are also proving to be a significant obstacle with no easy solution.
Russia will not be deterred by heavy losses. They simply don’t care if they lose 100,000 or even 500,000 so long as they don’t lose territory.
They didn’t get the territory they wanted, but they did achieve some amazing success like having the Russian navy retreat, destroy enough S400 launchers rhat the Russians have to compromise thier greater air defence integrity, etc
Zelensky can thank the pro-putin maga fascists for that.
It would take a single long range missle to destroy the kirsch bridge and end the war.
Apparently he has a tail
Ukraine is losing
At least he is honest.
Idk if it’s relevant this specific time but Zelensky has often downplay Ukraine own position to request more aids in the past
Logistics win the war. There were chances missed due to supply shortages. And I believe the commanders should be noted for not choosing to push and risk supply cut off. They did what they could with what they had and didn’t spend the troops lives cheaply. Can’t push an offensive when the squads have to raid every trench for ammo.
So you’re saying it’s a standstill? Wow, that’s breaking news. It’s time to get to the negotiation table and end this. I wish that running the Russians out of everywhere was a realistic goal but that’s just not going to happen.
Accepting reality is important to fighting wars
Russia: everytime western media says the word “counter offensive , plant a mine.
Russia 10 minutes later: we are going to need more mines!!!!
The math has always been on Russia’s side but pro-Ukrainians on Reddit really thought they could topple Russia. 🤷♂️
Yeah. A battle can be lost but the war isnt over. Just because a counter offensive failed doesnt mean Ukraine should give up. If anything this is a learning experience for what worked and didnt worked and now they can shape a more realistic counter offensive for the future.
It’s sad. I’ve always maintained that Ukraine doesn’t win this war in any sense of the word. Everybody loves making fun of Russia, but at the end of the day, it’s the most resource-rich country on the planet with a single person in power that will find a way to execute its will to the world.
Its initial performance is always abysmal in any war, but once the entirety of its resources and manpower pool are utilized, there’s no stopping it short of a great power coalition. And that doesn’t happen because it would upend the world order, with which we’re all comfortable.
Neither will Ukraine get its 20% of the country back, nor will it become a member of NATO in the future. The second Russia actually invaded, NATO said, “Nope; forget it.”
Crimea is voluntarily Russian, Donetsk and Lugansk are voluntarily Russian, and there is no convincing those people that Ukraine is the better place to be.
The occupied ethnically-Ukrainian territories are not going to be taken by force because Ukraine has no weapons industry, Ukraine lost 5-10 million refugees that have fled elsewhere, and Ukraine has no manpower compared to Russia.
Air superiority is not possible for either side because they each have too many air defenses on the ground for planes to be effective. That just leaves army and navy as options.
Ukraine has no navy, and Russia has a meh but existing navy, so Ukraine cannot mount any amphibious assault on Crimea.
Russians have dug in, mined the whole place, and they’re counting on the fact that Western patience is thin, Ukrainian morale is low, and attrition favors the Russian federation. Army-to-army, and navy-to-navy, Russia wins as long as it commits.
Better send them another 300 billion
Are none of you paying attention to the total breakdown in Ukrainian defences along the whole line? That counteroffensive was a pure failure.
