**You die like an earthworm** *(poor translation – better one is “worm”)*
Audio recordings from Russian soldiers calling home from the battlefield in Ukraine tell of desperation. – You just die like an earthworm, says a soldier.
It is a rare insight into what the Ukraine war looks like from a Russian perspective. The Russian soldiers did not know they were being eavesdropped, and the recordings have been verified by the AP news agency .
The soldiers talk about “category 200” and “category 300” – old Russian military jargon for “the dead” and “the wounded” respectively. Now the desperation to get away from the battlefield has become so great that the soldiers have also started to mention “category 500” when they call home – those who refuse to fight.
The conversations from January this year tell how the war has developed. It started with the professional soldiers who invaded Ukraine, so-called “mobikers”. Now most of the Russian soldiers in the trenches are ordinary men from all walks of life.
**- Like an earthworm**
– There is no bloody way to die a heroic death here. You just die like a damn earthworm, a soldier told his brother from the front outside Kharkiv.
Soon there will be a new wave of mobilization in Russia , despite the fact that the Kremlin has tried to get people to enlist more or less voluntarily. In October, the annual enrollment of 130,000 conscripts began.
These are initially not to be sent to Ukraine, but once they have served their initial service, they are automatically enrolled in the Home Guard. And then they can be mobilized to be sent to Ukraine.
The recordings tell of men who could not, or would not, flee from mobilisation. Some did not have money, education or opportunities. Others thought they were doing their patriotic duty.
The AP highlights three pieces: one who worked in a slaughterhouse, one who worked in a law firm, and a final one who worked for a supermarket. The latter fled from large debts, including electricity and water bills that he had defaulted on.
**– Measures the size of the “equipment”** *(Proper translation from Norwegian would be “they are comparing sizes – as in a dick measuring contest)*
It is difficult to say whether the footage is representative of the mood among all Russian soldiers, but there has been a sharp increase in lawsuits against soldiers in Russia who refuse to fight in Ukraine.
– What is happening in Ukraine is genocide. If this evil does not stop, we will soon lead the Ukrainians to the Kremlin itself, says the soldier in the Kharkiv area.
– This is just a big test track. The whole world tests its weapons and measures the size of its “equipment”. That’s all, he adds
**Struggled with the thought that he had killed children**
A soldier nicknamed “the mad professor” was sent to the front near Bakhmut after only a few weeks at the recruit school, despite promises that he would not fight.
– The Wagner soldiers have night vision goggles and silencers on their rifles. I have an assault rifle from 1986 or something, he told his brother.
His job was to aim a grenade launcher, but the coordinates were so bad that he often hit other Russian soldiers.
The “Professor” also felt bad that the bombs he fired could hit children. It also pained him to think that the Ukrainian soldiers were “of the same flesh and blood as us.”
**Went home for his brother’s funeral – was called a deserter**
AP later spoke to him:
– If you refuse to do something, or express dissatisfaction, you become “category 500” immediately, he says.
Later he was allowed to return home, under suspicion, for tragic reasons: His brother died in a car accident. A short time later he was asked by the commander when he intended to return. Two hours later, the “professor” was listed as “category 500” – a deserter. Now he risks ten years in prison.
The soldier “Roman” had only spent two months at Bakhmut before he gave a clear message to a former colleague.
– Quite frankly: If you have the slightest possibility of being exempted, do it. If you are mobilized, damn it, join Wagner, enlist, or whatever you can. The mobilized conscripts are lowest on the ladder, he said.
**Went to the bathroom – was surrounded by tanks**
Roman tells of soldiers who cannot hold their rifles, lack of food, soldiers who drink rainwater and snow, and that he has lost over 30 kilos.
Twice he was lucky: he got food poisoning when his squad was actually going on a mission – none of the others came back. Another time he tripped and fell after the squad. Not long after, a grenade killed several soldiers in the squad.
Roman also tells of an episode where he tried to push a dying man’s entrails back into his body – but it did not save his life. He was standing outside in a field to do his chores when tanks suddenly started firing around him.
**- God willing, you will come home**
After two months in constant mortal danger, it began to take its toll on even the strongest minds.
– We survive because we are completely on our toes, constantly. Even other soldiers on our side do not come near us, especially at night. When we are on duty, we warn that we shoot at anything that moves, says Roman.
The soldier says that he feels worse about shooting a bird than a human being after several months at the front.
The mobilized soldiers feel worthless, says “Andrej”. They were not even allowed to go home if they were wounded and were materially worse off than the professional soldiers. Mutiny was in the air.
– God gives you one chance. God willing, you will come home, his mother told him.
The slave mentality has been pounded profoundly in the former commie population. What a bunch of losers. And lose they will.
Why do they prefer being mass slaughtered *for* evil (and committing unforgiveable sins before their death) to *risking* to die as heroes rebelling against their Fuhrer?
Have you noticed that their nazi propaganda TV isn’t sugarcoating their motifs anymore? They openly declare that they are fucking evil and vile AND that their soldiers are being mass sacrificed. Every single ruZZian is fully aware what they are doing. I do understand fear of dying but choosing to follow orders into certain death over actively deciding your fate is deeply disturbed.
They have nothing to lose, zero.
They prefer to keep that weird building intact rather than as a museum piece to serve as a reminder huh.
We’ve been hearing disgruntled Russian soldier reports like this and worse almost since day one. Yet the masses still line up and dutifully March into the teeth of Ukrainian fire, laying down their lives for nothing. There’s no Spirit of rebellion in Russia and there never will be. They all saw what happened to piggy’s plane.
I’m not excusing the atrocities committed in Ukraine and I’m not saying all Russians are innocent but I don’t think people realise the choice some Russians have to make. Either be conscripted or you and your love ones suffer. They say things like rebel or stand up to your government. Do they know what it takes to have Mass organised armed resistance. You get a conscription notice one day and then they come for you. It’s not like if you get the letter you go on the local rebel WhatsApp group saying let’s rebel now.
Go back to Ruzzia and kill your Führer worm. Could not be any more obvious.
