I hope this actually means we can have a debate about immigration without being shouted down as racist or accused of “dog-whistle politics”.
But according to the government its only a small lunatic faction that wants to discuss immigration?
Unfortunately means less air time for the country’s biggest issues: 1. Climate Change, 2. Housing, 3. Health.
Fingers crossed. Lots of people feeling disenfranchised.

Anxiety about immigration is a symptom of the mismanagement of the housing.
It’s easier for the government that priorities rent farming to frame criticism of their housing failures as purely anti immigration.

They probably planned this on their Saturday night 😂
Far right morons need to realise ‘having a discussion’ about immigration (with regards to our governments inability to house it’s citizens) isn’t the same as giving you freaks free reign to spout your racist, xenophobic bollocks.
The real question is this.
how many state they wouldn’t vote for for a candidate but in secret actually would.
It’s the old I’m not racist but………
“are now”? For the second X-mas refugees are at risk of being in tents because “expected contracts didn’t come through” and human rights groups are on our case. What kind of fckin operation is Roderic running here?
Sends out invites in 7 different languages now we’re converting every shack in the country into makeshift hostels. Where tf are all the single “military aged” women and kids actually?
Kinda feel like we could put this to bed if the department of social protection just published a short report showing the breakdown of social welfare payments by type.
When everyone sees the majority of sponges are Irish people we can all chill out about how it’s all the foridners.
What I will say is while housing was top of my list, law and order going pretty high now. FG have just sleepwalked the country the last ten years. They need to be ousted
Mass immigration for twenty years and still not enough doctors, nurses, plumbers, bus drivers, gardai, etc.. Etc…
We need immigrants to pay our pensions and immigrants to pay their pensions and so on.
Ponzi scheme
If you believe some of the permanently unemployed people in my town there are now 4 unvetted foreign national fighting age male paedophiles for every 1 Irish person. They share videos claiming to be facts with little evidence. Many of the videos are clearly filmed in the US FFS. Sadly people engage. Many are angry about the housing crisis and rather than holding politicians to account we’re blaming some of the most vulnerable among us.
There’s a theory once 10% of population think a certain way about something, you can’t kill it and it spreads. That was the far rights goal. It’s up to government to decide if they want to talk about issues. Or go down other European countries way of burying it until people get fed up and vote for the next viable far right party that pops up. It happened in liberal Sweden and Netherlands. It will happen here.
Its extremally simple math’s , we are taking too many people in vs the housing supply. 130k refugees IPA’s plus another 100k on visas etc. Or max housing output is 35k a year given the labour force we have. Therefore you have a big delta in population increase vs housing supply .
As long as we continue with our grow the economy at all costs strategy, we will need immigration at some level. Every time new offices open or a multinational expands, or a new fast food place opens, immigrants are needed to be cleaners, to work in the canteen and security guards and all these jobs that are really hard to fill these days with people living here already.
As economies get richer, the natives don’t want to do a lot of jobs as they have far more opportunities, this has happened all over the world. The Germans invited lots of gastarbeiter Turks in the 70s to work there, USA depends on migration from Mexico etc. to fill lots of roles.
I notice now that lots of the Centras etc. in Dublin are staffed by Indian people or people from that region. They seem to be hard workers and stick around for a long time, you just wont find any Irish people these days who will commit to a job like that for a long time and work hard at it, why would they when they have so many options?
The scale of immigration to Ireland in recent years has been incredible, pretty much unprecedented numbers. Irish people who have fought so hard for sovereignty have the right to an opinion on the fate of their country.
There’s an Irish Nigel Farage somewhere gearing up to take their 15 minutes of fame and fuck up the entire country. Depressingly familiar sentiments of pre-Brexit UK all over this.
We have a massive labour shortage. It isn’t an immigration issue it’s that we have upgraded our infrastructure to accommodate for a growing population.
Even the likes of Germany, Britain and Sweden acknowledge that they messed up. The Dutch people have acknowledged that they messed up. France and Belgium are in an existential crisis, so much that they have to put police on alert whenever Morocco are playing a big football match. Jaysis, France lost control of an entire City a couple of years ago for a few days (Dijon).
What are we doing specifically in Ireland that suggests that things will be different here?
It’s like we’re 20 years behind everybody, can see the errors of others and are still going to the same direction.
It doesn’t work. If we need to fill employment and pension holes, then make it easier for folks from South/Central America, South East Asian, Non-EU Europe. Folks that have a similar culture and integrate well.
Divide and rule , FF/ FG learned well from their colonial masters, bait rich against poor, national against immigrants, create the mob victim mentality, and through control of the media, distract the population from the ruling classes gross negligence ,incompetence, corruption and monumental greed, but protect the status quo at all costs.
I blame the people making the decisions not people coming here for a better life.
The people making the decisions don’t want to be blamed so they will look to blame others for their very own failings.
Genuine far right, or are we just calling people who want a discussion about immigration ‘far right’?
Last week anyone who called for a discussion on immigration was being labelled as far right by this subreddit…..
