  1. Dude its just like anywhere else on the planet, some people are just well off because they’ve worked hard, had a good idea, or it was given to them by their parents/family.. sometimes it’s fraud or drugs but that’s rare in Cyprus

The answer is simple, and the only way you’ll find out what these specific people do is by asking them personally

  2. Most of them didnt make the money for these cars in Cyprus. Knowing one of the cars, he has huge wealth that he invests (ofc not himself) and not to Cyprus.

  3. You people act like rich people exist only in Limassol and nowhere else on the face of the earth. Did you know there are rich people with Porsche in Afghanistan? You have no idea what true wealth is until you go to Switzerland. So what’s so weird and what is the point of the question?

  4. At least some of those are russians who “worked” for the government or government-related families and stole lots of public money.

  5. As a marketer from IT I can say that many of these cars belong to C-levels from Russia, Ukraine of Belarus. It’s much safer to run a business here, and Cyprus is basically a tax heaven. If someone has a company with 1000 employees around the world 700k it’s not that much. Simply count the taxes. In Russia, for example, with all social security taxes and income tax it can be up to 45%. Here it’s below 13 as far as I know. So what would you do with extra money? 😉

Speaking of types of businesses that can earn enough:
    – finance tools (analytics, trading platforms, crypto, etc). Exness is a great example
    – online casinos. They generate a fuckton of money, my friends work in one of them
    – porn (I heard that Pornhub has a legal entity in Cyprus)
    – mobile and pc games (there are plenty, Nexters and Wargaming for example)
    – any shady offshore stuff. I know that in the 90s is was extremely easy to wash the money here. A lot of Russian oligarchs did it back then. My friends told me that the owner of Punin wines (and many other companies) is a friend of Mayor of Moscow and helped him a lot of the past. It’s just a rumor, but you get the idea.
    – also a lot of rich people like to retire here. I know that there are a lot of older Britts who bought a house and live on their pensions and shares.

  6. As most people said, the majority of these people made their money abroad. However don’t give up, this is an opportunity for you. It means there’s a big bunch of cash wandering around your neighbhourhood and since they are physically present there, they are bound to spend money in things that you could somehow get into.

  7. considering that your avarage russian IT makes 150K, thats enough money to get you started

  8. Are there CY businesses which try to offer exclusive services/goods to this segment? Except for the tax planners and accountants. Seems to be the biggest opportunity in cyprus

  9. The op has made the Same thread four times the last semester.

  10. The cars you feature are not even new models though. They could easily be leased second hand from Eastern Europe at a fraction of the first hand price.

  11. I can not say for all, but, basically, outside of criminal activity, people get paid for doing thing efficiently. It’s hard to explain in layman terms, but if company with 4 people doing 10m/year, those people are doing their job better than in a company with 100m/year revenue employing 400 people.

Given modem level of automation, you never know how well next person is working.

The other venue for new money is business. If you own the business with 100m/year income and 10m profits, you can afford a car or two.

  12. easiest place to launder your money, not only that the government even gives you a passport regardless of your criminal status

  13. The best answer is that it’s none of my business and I’m happy with what I have…

  14. As a Russian Cypriot from Limassol whose family is one of the well off families here it would definitely be Real Estate and IT. Limassol was the only large enough coastal city in Cyprus that would be able to attract young entrepreneurs from around the world to live and work in Cyprus. Nicosia is a Cypriot city through and through that’s why I don’t like it personally. Coupled with the fact that there is no sea which is the main selling point here apart from the taxes which you can get anywhere on the island. Limassol is built for foreigners and honestly is the economic capital of the island.

Full Cypriots here hate Limassol because of an inferiority complex. People from Nicosia used to make fun of us for being “dock workers” as the only significant thing here 40 years ago was the harbor. Now we drive the economy of the island. Honestly adapt or die and Nicosia who used to be the unquestionable center of the island is no more. Paphos and Larnaca are way too small to be able to compete in any way.

  15. Somebody has to say it.. exploitation and genocide 🙂
