  1. Forgot they were being blown this morning and there was slight panic / confusion when the house shook… my dad and some of his brothers worked here from the 70s through to the 90s. I always remember the kids Christmas parties they organised, was amazing.

  2. what a total waste – they should have repuposded them into something cool

  3. RIP hun u r wiv da angles an Brighton tower an miller genril ospital an most of MG Rover now x

  4. The whole of Widnes stopped to watch this. End of an era.

  5. Fred Dibnah could have sorted that lot with a bunch of wooden ladders, a hand malllet and a few good sturdy men

  6. Our family named the ones at Sheffield, Benson and Hedges.

  7. I remember the cooling towers near Wigan being demolished like this when I was a kid something like 1989 so I’ll have been 15. They’d been part of the horizon in the area all throughout my childhood.

  8. Gutted I missed this. I live 5 minutes away but I was working 😪

  9. Amazing footage! Thanks for posting. It’s going to be surreal not seeing the eight towers on horizon the next time I’m back in Widnes.

  10. wait… why are we getting rid of our nuclear power plants? Don’t we need those

  11. Forgot this was happening this morning and left the window in my bedroom slightly ajar last night.

Since I’m about a 5 minute walk from them, I almost shat the bed when they dropped lmao

  12. Heard and felt the explosion from my house. Pretty cool

  13. I heard this happen today. Had my headphones on and everything.

  14. Yeah. Will the pub change it’s name to Ye Olde 8 Towers?
