Living expenses for asylum applicants to be increased if state runs out of accommodation

  1. It’s times like this where I genuinely feel like I am insane. Surely, if we are in a situation where we have literally no accommodation left, you HAVE to change the rules and stop the influx until you have the infrastructure. You can absolutely go to the EU or whoever and state ‘We have nothing left, we cannot do this’ and find some arrangement. Bringing folks in for the sake of it and doing literally fuck all is absolute insanity.

  2. We’re having a vote of confidence for McEntee and nobody says a word about O’Gorman.

We have vastly higher number of Ukrainians here per capita than anywhere else in Western Europe. Why? Because we give them way more benefits than anyone else.

They have been coming here for nearly 2 years now and are still coming at a rate of 800/week and we can’t fix it? And we haven’t worked out why yet?
It can be fixed with a stroke of a pen.

Drop the weekly social welfare payment for all Ukrainians to the next highest European payment of €106/week.

    Problem solved overnight.

  3. We’re looking at Nigeria, Algeria, Afghanistan, Georgia and Somalia as main five right now, you’ve got to question the legitimacy of Nigerian, Algerian and Georgian claims, while also wondering how many Afghans and Somalis are passing through other EU countries. If you won’t take a hard line on decisions, you’ve got to take one on provisions.

  4. “If”

Since there seems to be no end to the flow and even less sign of anyone in government willing to stop the flow for fear of twitter knobs calling them racist then that ‘if’ is as well to be changed to a ‘when’.

  5. Wow what are they doing about Irish housing oh that’s right nothing and no increased payments for Irish wow

  6. Living expenses for Irish nationals will also be increased, not to mention taxes. That will be used to pay for accommodation for people who aren’t Irish. Nice deal.

  7. Don’t worry they’ll pay for themselves over time

  8. If the EU said it wasn’t necessary, the government would stop over night!

They want to look good to Europe, they don’t care about the asylum seekers, the Irish or anyone else that doesn’t keep their gravy train in motion!

  9. I assume we won’t hear about pushing the age of a retirement ever again? It’s raining money here for people who didn’t contribute or won’t contribute to a budget until their kids start working.

  10. Well hopefully they will stop coming now that they hear news about sleeping in tents

  11. Absent a Job Guarantee where anyone coming into Ireland is building their own accommodation + contributing to solving the housing crisis, no more people should be arriving.

And I would absolutely support near-unlimited immigration into such a Job Guarantee – it would be an incredible economic boost.

  12. > The commission noted a High Court ruling in April in a judicial review case “concerning the human rights of people arriving in the State seeking International Protection”.

    > That ruling found that “failure to provide International Protection applicants with material reception conditions was unlawful, and that it amounted to a breach of the applicant’s right to dignity under the Charter of Fundamental Rights”.

    > O’Gorman previously warned government last month of the risk of running out of accommodation last month – ahead of winter. The number of Ukrainians arriving into Ireland had returned to high figures of between 700 and 800 per week at the time.

There will be more riots within months. The government is completely out of its depth.

  13. You know it’s bad when you can’t even find one person screaming ‘racist’ or ‘remember the famine’ in a refugee related thread.

Even the leftist lefties on here are worrying about how they pay their rent, get a mortgage or what number they are on the housing list.

  14. What are they going to use the money for. Housing? How can they find housing for themselves if the state (with an essentially unlimited budget) can’t even find it?

Sounds like they’re just ‘paying them off’?

  15. I give up. We are fucked. At this stage I think the government want more asylum seekers cos they are doing everything in their power to increase the amount coming. This government, the NGO’s and Immigration lawyers are a shower. I don’t understand why we even signed up to the Lisbon Treaty.
