Passengers will no longer need a negative Covid test to enter the country

  1. Excellent news and should make travel easier. Made very little sense for vaccinated people from countries with much, much lower case levels than ours to need a negative test to enter our covid nest!

  2. Great news, vaccinated people aren’t disproportionately affecting the health system so this is good and makes quick trips to Europe more accessible

  3. I flew in from Spain last week, the only paperwork that was checked at the airport was my passport. The Covid19 cert, locator form and Antigen test were not verified.

When I flew out to Spain they checked my certs and locator forms.

  4. Flew back from UK 2 weeks ago. No stops this side checking for vaccine proof/locater forms and negative PCR result after being told they were absolutely necessary to travel.

  5. Brings Ireland into line with other EU territories and out of whack with the UK – which is the best course.

  6. Perfect timing since I fly back to Dublin today and had to pay for a test…ugh.

That damn rule never made any sense in the first place.

  7. Haha, literally just had to go through all this malarkey, only in the country a few minutes before this post

  8. Fuck me, I was to go skiing in Italy on the 2nd Jan and cancelled it because of the need for tests to re-enter the country and now it looks like I could have went all along.

  9. Been stuck in UK for a week with positive test..Cost me a fortune.Stil waiting to buy new flight…

  10. I’m seeing people saying they didn’t check their certs, mine was checked before I flew and after I landed but I go to the NON-EU queue at Immigration (where they are bit more strict I believe)

  11. Amazing. In the US at the moment and getting an appointment for a test that doesn’t cost $200+ has been really difficult. Thank God I didn’t pay for one yet.

  12. Your fucking kidding. I flew from the US yesterday and getting an antigen cost so much and added so much stress, they never even fucking looked at it

  13. Fantastic. I want to get out of this kip for a few days without the stress of looking for a testing centre abroad and the anxiety of waiting for a result to come back into the country while being triple vaccinated.

  14. I flew from Finland , fucking authorised antigen test cost my 100e, I did fly back 4 days ago my friend today. They did check papers 2 times

  15. Flew to Toronto for Christmas. Had my negative PCR test done in Dublin prior to flying and this was checked by Aer Lingus staff prior to boarding along with my ArriveCAn Form (on App).

I was selected for a random PCR test in Toronto airport. Quaranteened for 39 hours (until I recieved my negative result).

Flew to Dublin last Monday. Staff checked my Irish passenger locator form and my negative Antigen test (PCR test not required if you are vaccinated) when I checked in for flight.

  16. Wasn’t checked on my way back after Christmas but i saw Ryanair did spotchecks and refused boarding to people at the gate. I’m in favor of getting rid of testing though. Either have testing across the EU or not, the patchwork approach is confusing and defeats the purpose of free movement and the EU covid cert which was first and foremost a travel document not a vaccine passport for leisure as it is being used as now.

  17. Great news. My long distance relationship is already hard enough – the stress and expense of having to get an antigen test was really adding to it.

My partner could not get an appointment at the airport, 2 days in advance. So we had to waste a few hours going in to the city centre on the way to the airport.

Personally, I think it’s crazy (but not surprising) that people are just fine with being denied entry to their country of citizenship based on an antigen test (edit: and the availability of tests, and ability to get to testing centres, and for private companies to permit you access to their premises, and so on !)

Moreover, they’re a complete farce. It’s just security theatre. Compare the instructions of the UK antigen test with what they do at the “professional” centres. My partner’s swab involved 2 light circular motions of each nostril. He said he barely felt it. And I thought antigen tests were for confirming COVID when you’ve got lots of symptoms. Most people are going to test negative if they have no symptoms

  18. They don’t seem to be checking in Dublin Airport, when you arrive – instead they are checking when you’re boarding on the other side.

That has been my experience anyway. A lot of people here are making it seem like you never needed to bother getting the cert to say you’re negative, but in reality it was being checked, just not by DAA.

  19. There goes the fear of becoming positive overseas on a trip and having to pay for a hotel for a week or two and missing your flight.
