It doesn’t matter how effectively we trade in Avdiivka if the Russians are just going from 4 to 1 to 3.5 to 1.
We’re still outnumbered. We need better weapons. We need air dominance.
Might be time to get out. No sense losing men in an encirclement unless the Ukrainians are plotting to counter.
That suck 🙁
Good luck to the heroes that are defending the “town”
That’s the bad news NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg alluded to.

This sadly is to be expected and will likely happen again and again. No matter how long and favorable Ukraine defends a city, the more it gets bombed and bombed again, the less defenses are there and they need to retreat at some point.

Strategically, this isn’t that bad since Ukraine trades Equipment and Soldiers FAR more favorable. But it is something that goes against the moral pretty hard, losing ground always sucks. And it is nothing that is sustainable forever.
There is only so much that modern Equipment can do, to counteract the numbers game Russia is playing, but we are nowhere near exhausting that potential. With more equipment and Ammunition for vital artillery Ukraine could probably draw out Avdiivka for way longer with even better ratios.
This would be a perfect time for the aging European countries to restructure their Military, starting by throwing everything out and giving it to Ukraine. Global production is sadly not able to keep that up.
For ten years Russia has been fighting here, with no result except a mountain of 30,000 ex-Russians. The title should read “Russian forces make deadway…”
Guys imagine if the west had helped Ukraine in 2014… All of this land would’ve been Ukrainian, there wouldn’t have been war.
What a fix…
Moral will suffer a lot, even in the west, because there is growing anger and devision on how this would need to be played out – we all understand, that if the proper west arms (read, ATACAMS and planes) would be used, nothing of this would be possible. You can not win russians with small arms – read history of recent russian wars. Russia had zero value of their people – they would create wave aftet wave of meet to throw on you. Read about last months of WW2 and Berlin, read about Kursk, Narva and similar battles. West simply can not comprehend the level of no-brain russian system. There is chain reaction coming after loosing this town – internal comflicts in UKR will start to grow, West will understand that there is no easy solution, but they are running out of arms, rus will boost their morale and in the end they will get what they want – damage controll morale victory – negotiations what will end with some kind of peace, lost land for Ukraine, internal conflicted sociaity in Ukr, anger against west etc etc – tides can be changed very easy. With one town. And Rus understands that – threfore they are throwing to it all they have.
The “for as long as it takes” bullshit is coming to fruition.
Ukraine needs (more) air-support – Where are those western jets.. (stuck somewhere in the political circus?)?

Depressing.
