>”The survey also found that more than 80 per cent of people would be unwilling to visit the capital.”
Must be why Dublin is a fucking ghost town, all day, every day so….
Did they just poll Redditors or something?
Obviously people weren’t rushing into O’Connell St on the day after the riot but since then I haven’t heard a single person say this in the last week in reality
FWIW I book hotels fairly regularly in the city centre and have noticed a decent price dip post riots.
They haven’t tried booking a restaurant this side of Christmas, clearly.
What’s the point in going into town other than for work? This has been the way since around 2018..the globe closing was the final straw – I will not set foot in town ever again, and that’s that!
Edit: plenty of straw clutching going on..name me a city worth visiting that doesn’t have at least one decent book shop and a handful of museums and eateries..I’d fly to London before heading 25 mins into town on the bus.
Half the city is being ridiculous.
My sons school had a trip scheduled for town last week, but due to parents expressing concern, it was cancelled.
Yet the day after people were attacked with a knife at a local funeral, kids from the same school were in the nearby area.
Make it make sense.
It’s really stupid. The riots were bad, but contained. Just a bunch of criminals running amok at the same time; they won’t do that again for a long time.
Belfast was packed with Dubliners doing Christmas shopping. But I think less people have been going to Dublin for a long time. The outrageous hotel prices, the shite that was going on near O’Connell street before the riots. I’m sure a stabbing in broad daylight too is part of it
People are scared. It’s really safe right now due to the amount of Gardai out and about now.
I was in town on Saturday at 3-4 pm. It was thronged with people. 🤷♂️ Went from central bank to the Savoy, walked back southside and it was very busy at 7.
Headline:
> More than half of Dubliners visiting city centre less often after riots
First line of the article:
> More than half of Dubliners have *said* they are visiting the city centre less
Polls that measure what people say they might do/are doing are tricky.
Anybody who has been in town will know it’s busy. They only way we’ll know for sure is after the fact.
And they you have to look at who is doing the survey and why? These things costs money, The Mail are paying good money and they need a nice headline.
> Amárach Research poll for the Irish Daily Mail
Our country HUGELY depends on tourism sooo yeah they’d really want to be making Dublin appear safe as possible and welcoming asap as no matter how safe it is now people will be googling and seeing those images and think no thanks
Yeah Ive to make the terrifying trip into Camden st to the office the odd time from south Dublin. Every time someone gets on the bus I flinch. I’m literally absolutely terrified of all the horrifying Dublin people that are uhh also going to work.
/s obviously but Dublin is fine lol
That’s weird – I struggled to book a decent restaurant anywhere in the city centre last Saturday. Everywhere was packed out – pubs were absolutely jammed with Christmas parties and people doing pub crawls. Town seemed normal for this time of year.
Literally a ghost town
My office was scheduled to have an early afternoon Christmas lunch with drinks into the evening next week. It involved walking from the office to the restaurant, about 1km across the city centre. After the riots, they cancelled it and used the money for food delivery and drinks in the office lounge. So, if you got a restaurant spot at the last moment, chances are you took our place. You’re welcome.
