There’s never a courier, you get told that you need to pay insurance for the money or some bullshit
Usually you’ll get an email from “Fedex” saying you need to pay some sort of refundable deposit to proceed with the pickup. No courier will ever arrive.
Just googled that address. Excellent stuff.
I’ve had about 10 people message me about the sofa and so far they’ve all been variations of the same scam so I’ve started messing with them to amuse myself.
There was one guy who played it slightly differently (he’d send his son in his truck apparently). Hope he was a scammer too as he certainly sounded like one but maybe I should have played along for a bit longer to find out.
I knew it, bleedin coppers lounging around all day on leather sofas doing fuck all….
What kinda sofa we talking about? You’re not too far from me but if it’s ok I’d like to send a courier to pick it up?
They will come up with some other reason why they didn’t show and therefore you need to pay them
I want updates! Haha
Either you get a fake insurance bill, or a courier does arrive, it gets shipped overseas and then you get stuck with the customs fees.
I had one when selling AirPods. A courier did turn up to collect them but had no money for them, just said that someone arranged a parcel collection. After telling them they just said it was a scam and to block them.
In this case the scammer actually paid for a collection which isn’t cheap and thought I’d just hand them over for free. 🤷🏻♂️
Do you deliver hun? I’m just down your road.. 75 miles away.
They nearly got me once, offering way more than was worth for an old fish tank, had me in a blind panic that the courier was “on the way” but I didn’t trust the payment “system” they had sent (online webform) and they were refusing any other payment method. Calmed down when my wife looked over the chat and pointed out to me I hadn’t actually given them my address.
In my defence, before this I did once actually sell something on gumtree via courier collection, but that was paid through paypal at least…
I always wonder how people end uo doing this scam, where do they find this
Never gone all the way through the scam as the last time it happened they seeded money upfront before they could turn up. When I eventually refused they told me Interpol were on there way to arrest me with some piss poor images attached to an email for verification that I was being arrested.
We did actually use a courier company to buy furniture from gumtree in Birmingham and have it transferred to Glasgow. The seller took some convincing to let us do it.
I was selling a pram once and got the same kind of text. The courier actually turned up gave me my money and took the item.
I got so sick of these scammers when I was selling my old washing machine that when one woman messaged me, I immediately said ‘oh great, another DPD scammer’.
Turned out she was legit and bought the washing machine that day 😂
I hate selling shit because I don’t want the hassle haggling..
Was selling my old childhood gameboy a bloke messaged me asking how much I said cex will give me £90 if I take there so how about 80? Seemed fair.. he said I was asking for an outrageous price then a chap drove from near London I think so quite a drive to get it, was a lovely chap who seemed happy with it truth be told he was getting a bargain as it had pokemon games and it was a gameboy color that seemed to go for 70 on It’s own.
Then a steering wheel for gaming guy picked it up and was done in seconds, didn’t have any scam attempts, no time wasters, the whole thing was pretty simple.
