Listened to an interview with a child psychologist once. She said a family she worked with had a great middle class lifestyle, kids in private education, top flight careers etc, but one child was a tear-away and no amount of support could rectify it. Her logic was that nature just throws up a bad combination of genes once in a while ! I guess it’s the same for this dog.

Dogs are exceptional creatures, every moment from birth, their ‘goal’ is to be a productive and useful member of their *pack*. Humans can be exceptional as well.. as this guy clearly was. But if we look close enough, *if it was healthy*, we will find it was people/s that *taught* the dog its place was to be vicious and violent. Hopefully not on purpose, but they were human and ultimately *they are* responsible for this mans death.

Disagree with me all you like. I’m not trying to change peoples opinions on any issue. I’m trying to point out that these posters aren’t genuine. They don’t post in good faith. Merry Christmas.
He must have known that was going to happen one day
How does a dog seemingly kill someone like this? Presumably someone relatively fit and healthy stands a good chance of fighting back? With these dogs you’d want to at least carry bear spray or even a hunting knife. Just in case….
Very sad. He obviously had a good heart but some animals are too far gone and that is the hard reality of life.
But other dogs can be managed with the right training and open minded owners!
We need new legislation that includes any dog of a ‘bull terrier type’ being subject to some reasonable restrictions.
It’s too easy to have something that’s a that’s quite clearly a fighting dog, and claim it’s just a “Staffy Cross”
Make the law say ‘bull terrier type’ and there’s no loophole.
Poor guy. 5 kids.
> large bulldog-type dog
To the surprise of nobody, yet another Americanised shit hound that would have savaged a kid or old lady to death. Should have put it down immediately.
So sad. I love dogs but some dogs are just too far gone and dangerous. There was an incident a few years ago in Edinburgh where a similar breed of dog jumped out of a car and mauled a spaniel to death on the street. It was a similar situation where it was a dangerous dog who had issues in the past.
I wonder if it was Daschunds? Cavoodles? Golden Retreivers? Not them, maybe Spaniels? Blue Heelers? Kelpie? Mini Staffy? Silky Terriers?
Anyone?
Very sad. He obviously was very caring and compassionate towards these dogs so to die like this in such tragic circumstances and leave his children orphaned is awful.
I love dogs and believe with proper training, education and support, the large majority of these “aggressive” breeds can live wonderful lives. But some unfortunately are maybe too far down the point of no return and can’t be saved sadly.
I think also any dog is capable of lashing out in the right circumstances and owners have to be vigilant against this and some don’t. I had a springer spaniel which we had from since she was a puppy and when she was about 8 had to go to the vets regularly and developed a fobia of having her collar put on. I tried to put it on her one day very early on and she bit me. She wasn’t a particularly strong dog and didn’t bite me for long but it was very shocking and definitely made me think how much damage these larger, stronger breeds can do. Fortunately we got a behaviourist/dog trainer to work with us and she got over it but it took a lot of money, effort and training. Many people probably just look the other way qns then the bad habit gets ingrained in the dog and it’s harder to break.
