People can complain all they like about “American Hegemony” or the “Military-Industrial Complex”… But NATO, being the largest and most powerful cohesive military alliance in the history of the world, has resulted in the longest period of peace in European history.
But not only that. Its very existence gives pause to any other nation in the world wanting to start trouble with one of its members or one of the allies of its membership. It is hard to fathom this unless you really dig into history, but wars used to be **much more common around the world**, they used to last longer, they used to cause more death and destruction, and they used to be fought over silly adventurism.
Now with the ever present threat of retaliation that NATO represents, war is a much more risky proposition. And as NATO grows, by adding more nations, the potential value of war diminishes significantly.

He is openly talking about jailing all political opponents. He is openly talking about not upholding the constitution and lying that he even ever took an oath to begin with. His contempt for basic human rights should worry us the most. The way he fawns over despots. If you thought domestic genocide under Mao or Stalin was bad…
It wouldn’t surprise me, that, on the heels of modern technology, this culture of hate and his own desire to destroy the modern world, we will see an America that‘ll make us wish for The Handmaid’s Tale or even 1984. This could easily be a future that is much more horrific than any fiction book can currently describe.
Given the stakes, I don’t think any of us, myself included, are truly fighting as hard as we should right now.
