Children need to be protected…from them and their parents consenting to a treatment recommended by a medical expert inline with research done into the topic
Ugh! This will cause the mental health crisis to spiral even further. There’ll be active rise in suicides. The Tavistock Centre was very good at counselling vulnerable gender confused children and would only provide hormone treatment after extensive assessments. There needs to be support NOT criminalising vulnerable children. The Tories really are vile.
We already have the Gilick Competency within which people part 14 have the right to medical autonomy.
Beyond this, practically speaking, doctors tend to listen to the child patient even in cases of youth as its the more ethical thing to do. We have precedent of 12/13 year olds refusing further experimental cancer treatment and tranisitioning to palliative against the wishes of the parent.
Why for some reason does this all go out the window with gender?
Like I get completely not doing surgery on a 11 year old, they are too young to understand and whilst they wait for that age puberty blockers will stop them going through irreversible puberty that may well ruin their body image for life.
By the time your 16, you are criminally responsible, as in we will put you away for life. but god forbid you want to change gender. Its just plain bigotry.
How telling that just as the covid inquiry is making the government look particularly shit, they’ve warmed up the anti-trans machine again. Just a friendly reminder that regardless of how you feel about the topic of transgender rights, it affects so few people in this country that it should never, ever be in the news this much above actually important things like whether or not people can afford to live, or were banned from seeing their dying relatives while this lot were holding Christmas parties and saying “let them die”.
It’s a distraction tactic, don’t get sucked in.
