  2. We’ve all seen the videos, mostly they just leave them to rot. I imagine someone doesn’t return they’re just “missing” unless someone cared to bring them back. Numbers look better to the higher ups this way.

  3. While I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of it was due to blatant dishonesty, I also wouldn’t be surprised if much of the underreporting is due to simply not caring about the dead. They literally see soldiers as a resource. Maybe they just forget sometimes to note that some have passed because they’re likely not seen as worth the paperwork to those in charge.

  4. When Ukraine took back Izyum in 2022, they found handwritten notebooks tracking casualties. There’s no chance they have a real idea of who they’ve lost.

  5. Reporting casulaties to superiors is certainly a very bad idea… So no one is counting, noting down, or even asking about it.
    Next step is the disposable soldiers life value becoming a circle.
