If you are a British citizen and fall in love with someone from abroad you will need to earn £38,700 if you want to live together in the UK.

  1. I’ve asked the wife and we can afford one between us

  2. You could have a properly thought out and administered immigration system designed to support your overarching industrial strategy and workforce plan. Explain clearly the need for migrants to come and make the UK their home as well as the obvious benefits.

Or, you could continually scapegoat immigrants to deflect from domestic policy failures. Cause enormous harm to the economy when this scapegoating results in uintended political outcomes. Which requires even more inward migration, much than you have repeatedly claimed to want or that the country needs. Then find yourself attacked by the lunatics and racists who you made believe migrants were behind the tawdry miserable lives they lead being so tawdry and miserable rather than you.

So in a knee jerk act of wanton, barbaric, utterly insane arseholery, you make coming here to work, even more of viscous, expensive, inhumane pain in the fucking arse, for the very people the UK so desperately needs.

    The cunts.

I hate this about the UK more than anything else.

  3. What if you don’t love them do you get a discount?

  4. I just moved here two months ago after we entered into a civil partnership. I have a job here and everything. We just started looking at properties to buy our very first home too. This has been the happiest I have ever been in my life. Does this mean I’ll have to go home if he isn’t making that? We did long distance for over four years and I’d have to move back in with my parents. I can’t go back to that…

  5. The income requirement for spousal visas may not make it through the committee stage without being modified. As currently envisioned it’s far too punitive towards British citizens and their families. This body is educated, vocal and organized – they’re already marshalling the troops.

There needs to be an income threshold for those on Skilled Worker visas but how the UK is using this category is simply stupid. A SW visa is supposed to be for the highly-educated, in-demand, highly-paid, niche skill-sets. The UK has opened it up to those at the lower end of the pay/skills spectrum rather than creating another form of visa category – with its own thresholds. To then apply SW visa income requirements to Spousal Visas is idiotic.

The UK has never “done” immigration law well. The Tories have been spectacularly bad at it, especially from 2016 onwards. These proposals are no exception.

  6. Happened to me. Met when i was at uni, no guarantee of making the threshold. Ended up deciding to move to Canada. She get a job that met their threshold and sponsored me. I miss Scotland though. Been here 10yrs this year
