  1. Is there another first world country with headlines like these?

  2. The harrowing thing is there are plenty more like this poor woman but are too embarrassed to admit it. There’s also thousands of adults living at home with parents squashed into tiny houses and everybody is at complete breaking point. It’s shit for everybody but not rich enough to live but too poor die should not the be case in a so called first world country. We as nation need whatever government comes next to prioritize housing and a a very rapid pace we need serious change.

  3. No one who works a full time job should be forced to live in a cow shed, what the fuck like.

  4. Sure can she not get a deposit for a house from her parents🤔

  5. I see cars littered all over the place packed with belongings and people very obviously sleeping in them. Grim.

  6. I’m always wary of the people that get their stories in the media.

    >Beata said she applied for social housing but found herself over the income threshold by a couple of hundred euro

Based on this comment we can deduce that she earns about 45k gross per annum.

    >I cannot afford to rent a place anywhere.

I know the cost of renting is gone crazy, but she absolutely could afford something on a 45k salary. Certainly something better than living in a shed. I’d understand if she was struggling to actually *find* a place, given the rental shortage, but she specifically calls out cost.

  7. Sure and Josef came here never worked a day in his life and got a free gaff and salary of 36k courtesy of the dole office.

    Try it sometime

  8. >Towards the end of the interview, a text was received from a person from north Cork who offered Beata the use of his land for a mobile home. She said she was “overwhelmed” with gratitude.

Sounds like she might have something sorted now.

Having read the article, I wonder whether there’s something else going on here. She says she’s working and earning too much to qualify for social housing, but also that she can’t get by. If she’s not paying for rent then what’s she spending her money on?

If she’s in a rural area I’m sure she could find someone with an empty nest that would be open to taking on a lodger. However, she only seemed open to her former caravan or social housing, nothing else. She said she was at a friend’s house and started “eyeing up the cattle shed.” That suggests it was a choice. Not many people would choose to live somewhere like that. I wonder whether she might have some form of mental health condition

  9. She should pretend she’s an immigrant and she would be housed immediately.

  10. She should declare herself a refugee and live like a queen
