  1. I would love to see the independent Nebraska union leader beat a republican senator.

  2. >“Nebraskans have had it with Washington. We’ve been starving for honest government that isn’t bought and paid for,”

They should probably stop voting for Republicans then.

  3. >Dan Osborn, a 48-year-old military veteran who helped lead the 2021 strikes against food giant Kellogg’s, launched a challenge against 72-year-old Nebraska Republican Sen. Deb Fischer in October.

A pro-union independent who is also a military veteran. Dang this guy might actually have a chance

  4. Please don’t be a nutjob, please don’t be a nutjob, please don’t be a nutjob…okay, and let’s read the article, aaaaaaand

…and he doesn’t sound like a nutjob. Am I in the right universe?

  5. Awesome. Hope he becomes a big enough threat that republicans at least have to invest in defending the state. Even better if he wins.

  6. What is an independent anymore?

Is it someone who’s “fiscally conservative” but “pro choice”?

Or is it someone who’s anti choice, and fiscally liberal?

  7. It says something about how bad the Democratic brand is in rural America. I hope he wins.

  8. Under the circumstances, it would make sense for the Democrats to throw their weight behind this guy.

  9. Eh, one poll, B- on 538 pollster rankings and with a D bias, and this guy is only up by 2 points with just 40% support… I’d guess he doesn’t really have a chance and that in the end the undecideds will come home to the Republican. But Dems only got like 30% of the vote for Senate in the state in 2020 so even getting around 38 to 42 or around that would be an improvement

  10. shocking? past this point you would need to be a complete moron to vote republican in any election. if you do and are a republican prepare to only be treated nicely by other moron republicans for the rest of your life. only the most depraved and stupid are still republicans. the quality humans will reject you. they will pretend to be nice to you but really not want you around or to respect you at all.

  11. I’m a big believer more of these kinds of candidates will be running. All for it.

  12. Jesus I read the headline and thought it meant the Republican senator read physically assaulted.

  13. I’d hope to see more from outfits other than Change Research, but this is definitely unexpectedly-solid news even just by itself.

  14. Over half of the respondents were Republican and a about a third of them were Democrat. If a Democrat does run it could split the vote to keep the Republican in office though

  15. It’s a poll, so it’s in no way reliable, but I wish him luck.

  16. Dems should absolutely funnel resources to the guy and get out of his way. It’s an early poll with a lot of undecided— it’s not uncommon to see hopeful results that don’t reflect reality. However, sometimes people pick up steam. If nothing else, if this guy really catches on he could divert Republican resources from Ohio and Montana, which would be great for Dems’ chance of keeping the Senate (or even increasing majority if Texas and Florida break left— unlikely but could happen).

  17. Hope this guy doesn’t pledge allegiance to Israel like Fetterman.
