  1. it’s not like they weren’t selling the data from the get-go. now they are forced to discount.

  2. Is this bad to anyone besides the shareholders of 23andMe parent company? Everyone knows this is just a cover for private genetical mapping to be used on for profit genetical engineering.

We can only hope someone can steal the information they are consolidating about genetical variation and expression.

  3. What do they intend to do with this data? Can I expect to see my clone on the news invading Taiwan soon?

  4. meanwhile, i’m posting my results on various subs here.

  5. Another data point to add on top of all the phone, email, address & SSN. Eventually all info becomes public.

I basically have perma credit monitoring service in compensation

  6. That’s the sort of information you need to make virus’s and diseases that affect only 1 race

  7. I imagine this data is worth absolute gold to insurance companies.

Just buy it and sit on it.

Exploit it in a few years.

  8. I hope the hackers don’t take advantage of
Of my nonalcoholic fatty liver disease!

  9. I’m more surprised that 6.9 million people used that service

  10. (From the article:) After the cyberattack was reported, Wired estimated that “at least a million data points from 23andMe accounts” that were “exclusively about Ashkenazi Jews”

Something tells me the perpetrators weren’t looking for market data for selling more targeted ads. The data breach occurred on October 6.

  11. I will never understand why people will sign up to give their genetic information to a corporation.

  12. Criminal defense attorneys just collectively orgasmed.

  13. Damn, was really hoping to keep my genetic aversion to cilantro on the down-low.

  14. A lot of the gene sequences are in public databases, anyway.

All they can really do with gene sequences is be extra spooky.

  15. lol my mum asked if i wanted a dna kit for xmas, no thanks,

  16. So glad I have never opted into doing this kind of thing. Don’t need some random ass databases having all my DNA information.

  17. So I can get my ancestry information for free without having to pay Ancestry.com?
