In related news, the solar system gained a new sun this week
In other fusion news, equipment that can use fusion energy has dropped to USD 0.11 per watt and is expected to USD 0.10 next year.
Bahahahaha
When will it be up and running? 7 years? 😨
How many billions will the costs go over *this time*? 18 billion?
Companies are entering the game now that major governments have invested untold billions for forty years of basic research, paving the way for these private-sector pipsqueaks.
I’m hopeful it will work. But actually not for the reasons most people think. We have plenty of clean energy going up in the form of solar and wind. Terawatts of capacity in fact. It’ll take a decade or two to ramp up deployment to a similar factor even if we had the technology today.
Imagine a company like Helion getting it to work. It would be a huge for industries like steel foundries, or perhaps fusion powered ships. Imagine if all container ships used clean fusion power? Having a relatively compact fusion reactor with direct energy conversion would be a huge win for decarbonizing transport as well as heavy industry.
I’ve been reading about fusion power since the 1980s
