This is true, but it’s about as useful and insightful as telling people to have a coat for cold weather. Who doesn’t have a torch or some candles handy?
Thats just good contingency planning that peeps should do anyway. Batteries changing bank little gas stove and a ton of candles. Throw them in a drawer Check the charging bank now and then jobs a good one.
Edit) spelling.
Bet he’s got a generator round the back of his house running the diesel on PMs expenses
I’m ancient enough to remember the winter of discontent and to me that was an adventure with candles all over the place and on the bath. To experience it now with my own kids having no internet and devices etc would be a living hell.
How about the government do some contingency planning and for utility companies to do what is required to operate a suitable utilities grid? Would that not be a better solution?
Oh wait, of course, that would mean he’d have to upset some of his buddies.
We’re such an incredibly well-run country.
I’m so pleased the Government didn’t spend their thirteen years in power wasting time on developing and executing a national energy strategy. Why would anyone think we need woke nonsense like that when we can just have torches and candles?
We’re supposed to be one of the most advanced nations on this planet and this is genuine advice?
Remember when the mantra was “if we had nationalised power under a Labour government we’d have power cuts… I remember the 70’s”
Now it’s. “It’s just good planning to have torches and candles at hand” 😂
Seeding what is to come it seems. Acceptable failing infrastructure
I wish we could stock up on competent and confident members of government. Oh sorry there are currently none in stock.
This country is a joke.
How about then stocking up on some pitch-forks, just in case we fancy a march somewhere to voice our displeasure?
In other news: Oliver Dowden’s brother has started a torch and candle business.
A 64kWh EV feeding the house’s main needs can run for a few days, even with a couple of small heaters going it will easily last a day.
I live in a semi rural area on the edge of the network and we get a lot of power cuts. Usually lasting many hours. There are lots of overhead lines, lots of trees and an electricity provider that doesn’t seem to bother doing any maintenance around our way anymore. We have a whole drawer full of batteries, a large battery powered strip light, we have torches dotted around the place, maglites are the best torches imo. We also have a little gas stove but it can stink the house out. wind up radios are handy for a bit of entertainment, but also a good supply of board games. Don’t bother with candles as they make a mess. My neighbour has a diesel generator that he fires up when it’s a particularly long outage. I’m considering getting one.
So it’s; get rid of your wood stove, get rid of gas boilers, get rid of your ICE cars and use electric… Woops ran out of electric 😜
I thought the Tories hated the 70s with power cuts Etc? They are always denigrating it, despite the fact Heath was in power when they happened.
And now they are cheerfully advising us to be prepared?
You would have to have a heart of stone, not to laugh!
Meanwhile, Tories have invested heavily in candle and torch companies as they look to dismantle the UK’s power grid.
Britain sounds more and more like a third world country every year
Back to this shit again are we?
Just fuck off already.
Have worked in the energy industry for past 20 years in various organisations, also have plenty of lights/torches, batteries, chargers and a woodburner at home. Make of that what you will.
And people in this country and partly this sub will still vote tories because of ‘The Immigrunts’
