My American passport has all these fields labeled in English, French, and Spanish.
French people actually complain about this and go to sleep thinking they are grave and made good points. When the rest of the word realizes how sad and insanely pitying it is that after English has essentially dunked on them for 200 years, they are still under an illusion of greatness.
Language is how we communicate. Language has its own evolution And survival of the fittest. If you need to use laws and force to keep a language alive- that language does not deserve to live.
Every community has a language. It is universal and easy to make. Do french people really want to insult their own history and pride by making it seem like language- the thing everyone has is their greatest invention?
Korean ID card (including those issued for foreigners) are only written in Korean
Two vowel hiatuses and a double alliteration in M. The biggest challenge to French linguistic tastes does not come from the ones who put English on the ID card, but from whoever decided it was a great idea to name our Jane Doe Maëlis-Gaëlle Marie Martin.

The Academie française is a useless institution of conservative grumpy old men (and a few women) that is unable to follow the evolution of the language and the society, and fails at all its missions it was created for. For example, it was supposed to publish regulary dictionnaries and guides about grammar, rhetorics and poetics.
They published only one grammar book in 1930 which was laughed at.
The last finished edition of the dictionnary is from 1935.
No book about the other topics were ever published (since 1635).
I don’t give a fuck about what the Académie française thinks about my native language. Iels peuvent aller se faire cuire le cul.
I find hilarious how unsecure the French feel about their language. It’s like they are constantly trying to make clear how relevant French is, when it’s basically the other way round. English is the Lingua Franca nowadays, everybody speaks English.
if you want an ID card to be accepted across Schengen you need multiple languages – or stay at 🏡…
Meanwhile my Portuguese ID card is labeled in Portuguese, English and French
Is that language academy a Law Court now? Do they dictate what is constitutional and what not?
I think it would save time if France just dropped the French language and accepted the inevitable.
