Which application is better?

A lot of people have told me the first app is best and that was all they needed to ace the exam (because the same questions came up).
Now, is the app and exercising on questions the only thing to do?
Ive always thought you needed to buy and study on a book before doing the practice questions?

A book can help to learn some of the rules and its application on the road. Some apps come as a bundle with a book (see websites of producer). The app usually also explains the rule.
