The teenager was picked up at a train station in North Rhine-Westphalia on Tuesday. A days-long search comes to an end. Thousands of people in the Unstrut-Hainich district are relieved.
Thousands of people in northern Thuringia are breathing a sigh of relief: The 13-year-old girl from the Unstrut-Hainich district who has been missing for almost six days has been found.
This was confirmed by the police on Tuesday evening: “The missing girl was found safe and sound on Tuesday and is unharmed. She is now at a police station and is being questioned.”
The manhunt has now been discontinued. The investigation into the specific circumstances is ongoing, according to the police. According to information from our newspaper, the schoolgirl was picked up by officers from the federal police at the train station in Krefeld (North Rhine-Westphalia). Whether the girl was alone or accompanied is currently unknown, as is the background to her disappearance. The police issued a Europe-wide manhunt for the missing teenager on Tuesday morning.
**Sniffer dogs and police helicopter in action**
For days, it was not only the 13-year-old’s parents, relatives and friends who were worried. Thousands of people feared for the child’s well-being. At the end of the day, the police were not assuming a capital crime.
The girl had been missing since Thursday, November 30. She was seen at the Mühlhausen bus station at around 2.30 pm. Sniffer dogs were used to reconstruct a possible route for the missing person in the city area. A police helicopter was also deployed. A tracking dog was able to follow the trail to the train station in Mühlhausen. According to the police, it can be assumed that she boarded a train there on Thursday afternoon – presumably to Leinefelde. There were no witnesses to indicate that she was accompanied. The child had presumably continued her journey from Leinefelde by public transport.
In Leinefelde, the girl’s cell phone was last logged into the mobile network. After that, however, the trail disappears. The girl’s cell phone had been switched off since then. The Mühlhausen criminal investigation department had also intensively analyzed so-called traffic data from the mobile devices and social media used and followed up on information from the public. Information was followed up nationwide with the support of other state police forces.
**Police thank the public for their support**
The police authorities involved in the investigation would like to thank the public for their numerous tips and the support of all media representatives. With the conclusion of the search measures, the police request that the images of the missing person be removed from the portals in order to protect her personal rights.
