I firmly believe that climate action will eventually involve military force.
Rich, stable democratic countries can afford renewable energy and nature reserves. But poor countries need to exploit every resource they can in order to survive.
In an ideal world, we would wait for everybody to get rich and follow the same development path as us. But realistically, rich countries need to be out there enforcing environmentalism on developing countries, intercepting fishing fleets and illegal logging operations.
Which is unfair, and unjust, but ultimately necessary. The alternative is waiting for America to agree to a reduction in median household income to something closer to the global average – $10k USD per year.
