  1. I might invest in a road in the next 12 months. Looks to be an easy way to make an income.

  2. Good to see that the government loves to give private entities inflation matching pay rises but will not accept the same for its employees.

Always sort out the business lads

  3. There is no reason why infrastructure projects need to done through public private partnerships.
Ireland could have just as easily borrowed money at a low rate and financed these projects themselves. But no, let’s hand it over to an investment fund and let them screw the taxpayers instead, and don’t forget that all the toll companies were compensated to the tune of millions of euros because the numbers using them were down due to covid.

  4. I guess the war in the Ukraine has also impacted our supply of roads.

  5. gonna set up a toll bridge in the town I live in, seems to be a lucrative business that the government is happy to allow the public to get screwed by

  6. What exactly are we paying for? As in, what is the value for money here? Extortion?

  7. Disgusting honestly.

Try to find work and most of it is in Dublin because that’s where the funding and infrastructure has been at its best.

Can’t afford to live in Dublin because of the above fact.

Forced out to the countryside to be able to have a roof over your head.

Forced to buy a car because of the lack of reliable or in most cases, just lack of, public transport.

Forced to pay extortionate amounts of money for car insurance to providers who can just make up the numbers as they see fit.
Forced to pay tolls driving into and around Dublin.

Won’t mention the cost of fuel.

If you’re lucky you won’t have to pay for parking at your place of employment but many do.

All so you can make a living and pay your taxes that leave you wondering where it goes to.

I would love to see the excuses made if TDs had their expenses stripped back or were forced to rely upon the infrastructure that the rest of us have to use on a daily basis.

  8. There is no financial need for these tolls any more. We paid the debt off, now some corporation is profiting off us using our nations roads.

  9. They do realize they don’t have to match inflation if their own costs haven’t gone up?

  10. This will be a great way to encourage people to take the the train inste… oh wait.

  11. I need to get drunk and start ranting, but I can’t afford to. *Reads comments, nods in agreement. Fuck me, my life now resembles a sad echo of a bad nightmare that once stirred me from a deep sleep that is now just a distant memory from a past that feels like another life that some other cunt had.

  12. I love this piece from what /u/teddy372 posted

    > Adding to concerns is that the M3 contract with the State is in place until 2052, while the Limerick Tunnel contract runs until 2041.

    > If the State is to achieve its climate targets by 2023 – including taking more cars off the road – the taxpayer could again be liable to cover the losses at the tolls.

    > Deputy O’Rourke said: “It seems like a contract design that flies in the face of current transport policy thinking. For these projects to be viable they need to maximise the amount of vehicles on the roads. At a time when we are trying to incentivise people out of cars into public transport, these contracts will add to the financial burden on the taxpayers or alternatively on individual motorists.”

Seems like it was either negligence, stupidity, or intent to pad ones pocket when leaving government.

Or, it shows that aside from the greens, nobody else gives a shit about the climate targets (I personally don’t, but I love the fact the contract goes against our targets and aims)

  13. This government are doing everythng in there power to make life more and more difficult for the taxpayer.

  14. I go through 3 tolls going to the office and 3 on the way home. How is that fair?

  15. Can’t afford to live in Dublin, well just wait there kiddo, now we are going to make it less affordable to commute!

  16. You will own nothing and pay for everything. And just so you have something, you will blame the “others” for everything. Socialism for corporates; Welcome to FFGs Ireland!

  17. Where are the rioters now when we actually need them
