Spending that money on other energy sources gives a much bigger bang for the buck (or: faster CO2 reduction per euro invested, and cheaper energy to boot).
Absolutely not, Coal and Russian gas is the future as Germany has shown!
*sniff sniff*
You know what I smell?
I smell billions of tax payer money to be “invested” in decades long projects that may or may not get completed by 2050.
Ah isn’t it great being a corrupt politician…
Boy i remember seeing they Iter presentation about fusion energy about 15 years ago. It was so exciting. Well fast forward to 2022 and we don’t have a good alternative to nuclear fission yet. I`m very disappointed in this future we live in.
Ok, but this should be finance additionally to renewables. Not instead of.
He’s not talking about concrete policy, just at a high level at this point.
But I would venture to suggest that not closing down additional already-paid-for-and-working power plants ahead of lifetime schedule might be considered a small, low-risk, and reasonably-uncontroversial move.
We also need to learn how to build efficiently.
The EPR clusterfuck has done no favor to nuclear energy.
Europe should work more closely with Rosatom.
Fun fact: germans are hipocrites. They are against nuclear and yet develop “arrificial sun” thing
