  1. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the former House speaker who was ousted from his position in October in a revolt by hard-right members, will not seek reelection to his congressional seat and retire from Congress at the end of this month, he announced Wednesday.

“I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways,” McCarthy said in [a Wall Street Journal op-ed](https://www.wsj.com/articles/kevin-mccarthy-my-next-chapter-house-gop-retirement-california-e4e593d7?mod=opinion_lead_pos5). “I know my work is only getting started.”

McCarthy’s retirement will bring to an end a 16-year House career that saw him quickly rise through the ranks of Republican leadership, culminating with his stint as speaker. His ouster marked the first time in history that the House voted to remove its leader, a move that threw the chamber into a period of instability.

  2. Republicans are about to resign their majority down to like, two seats before special elections. McCarthy’s going, Santos is gone, there’s a member from Ohio that’s resigning to be the President of Youngstown State. The ungovernable mess is about to hit a new level.

  3. If you had told me Gaetz would shart out McHenry and McCarthy in the same week a year ago I would have called you crazy.

It’s amazing to me that the desperate Tea Party stalwarts are getting outflanked time and time again and called moderates.

  4. What’s that saying? Don’t let the door hit you on the way out

  5. This really goes to show what Republicans will do when someone stands up to them effectively. Gaetz, though his intentions are pure fucking evil, stood up to McCarthy and Kev folded like a crisp sheet.

We should take a cue and give that energy right back to Gaetz and the “Freedom” Caucus. Make them take their ball and go home just like Ol’ Spineless here.

  6. He belongs in prison in a cell next to Trump. The fact that there are people who tried to overthrow the government, or who condoned it after the fact, still sitting in congress, is so fucking absurd to me. And everyone is just carrying on as though this is all normal.

  7. This is what makes Nancy Pelosi so amazing. She stays and works even if she loses the cushy powerful jobs, because her experience is soo helpful to other democrats.

She was in majority, and went into minority but didn’t quit. She was speaker then stood down and didn’t quit. The standard theme for republikkkans is as soon as they lose a powerful positon, isntantly quit.

  8. Dems didn’t have to lift a finger to reduce the GOPs majority in the House. Bye Kevin!

  9. Every move he made in the past 2 years was wrong.

Don’t keep trying to be speaker if you can’t rally the votes on first try.

Don’t concede all power to the fringe just to get speaker.

When fringe kicks you out, don’t continue to appease them.

Don’t threaten to retire after being kicked out, only to backtrack.

Don’t float the idea of tossing your hat back in for speaker.

Don’t then retire again after all that.

  10. So, is he going to manage another Trump Social Media company? It would be my 2nd rep to do so…

  11. At this point Republicans are faced with two choices: embrace MAGA politics or be eaten alive by your own party. If only they could have done something to prevent this from happening oh well…

  12. Haha. Get fucked, Kevin. Nice legacy you’re leaving behind.

  13. So all that bootlicking was ultimately for nothing?

    Hilarious.

  14. I swear to God, if the Republicans lose their majority to attrition, it would be the funniest fucking thing on Earth.

Watching his Speakership votes was the best bonding I had with my (life long Republican)father in recent years.

  15. McHeney leaving should have signaled this to the masses. No surprise here.

  16. I bet a friend McCarthy was going to quickly bail and leave the new Speaker with essentially no majority. It wouldn’t be unprecedented to lose a couple more, which would deliver the House to Jeffries.

  17. Don’t let the door hit you were the good lord split you, fuckface.

  18. He may have lost his job, but at least he also lost his dignity.

  19. January 13, 2021: “The president bears responsibility for attack on Congress by mob rioters,” McCarthy said. “He should have immediately denounced the mob ..”

    15 days later …

January 28, 2021. McCarthy visited Trump’s golf club in Florida to grovel at his feet for future power.

    Really stunning, cowardly behavior.

  20. His headstone: He failed at everything and no one liked him, not even his fake friends.

  21. “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.”

    – Kevin McCarthy

  22. How the year started: Kevin very prematurely moving his stuff into the Speakers office before being voted in.

How the year ended: Kevin leaving Congress after being removed the Speakership

All in one year. That’s not gonna look good on his resume

  23. “I will never, ever give up fighting for this country that I love so much,” says the guy who is quitting his public service job before his term ends, enabled a treasonous authoritarian, and sold his soul for a brief sniff of power.

As many have said, McCarthy is a grinning shitkicker from Bakersfield who doesn’t give a damn about his constituents. Bye, Kev.

  24. Was it worth reviving trumps political career and destroying democracy just for another couple more unsuccessful years in politics bozo?
