Financial Review: Lapsed contract could deliver Aussie fighter jets to Ukraine

  1. If Ukraine says they need them and Australia says they are surplus just do it!

Every nation needs to do everything they can to help Ukraine defeat Russia or prepare to eventually fight Russia themselves.

  2. Would be nice if Canada could help with training pilots. The US should send us some loaner jets until we get our F-35s. Then we could send our F18s to Ukraine too. Theyre old but if Ukraine could put them to use that would be impressive.

  3. Clever. Can’t renew the contract if you’ve been defunded by Congress I guess…

I wonder how many more lapses could benefit Ukraine. Equipment that would have gone to them but is now blocked by Congress instead gets disposed of by a private contractor? And the bid goes to Zelensky & Zaluzhnyi, LLC for US$1?

(“That was non-competitive bidding,” you say, but the bid was open to the public and announced beforehand, it’s just that only Z&Z showed up….)

  4. actuall you need to ask MBS in saudi arabia for permission not the US goverment!

  5. I do have to ask an unrelated question, since the article mentioned coal: If Ukraine’s non-coal generators are under attack, how do we know the coal generators won’t be, too?

  6. F-18s are still very capable aircrafts, this would be a definite boon

  7. Get on with it Australia. Don’t dither the days and weeks and months away as more Ukrainians are killed by that monster Putin.
