Kurdish part of country is most religious parts of country. Nearly %70 of younger generation do not use it. Despite progress in headscarf (hijabi woman can work as teacher, doctor etc.) Younger generation don’t feel close to hijab.

  1. And, sincerely, it’s too much. Religion is like a d*ck, it’s ok to have one, but you don’t need to show it not make others like it.

  2. The numbers would be very different in a timeline without the genocide on christians in turkey.

  3. The percentage in the Aegean Region of Turkey (27,1%) is lower than in some Western-European neighbourhoods.

  4. As a turkish person, I want a 50/50 religious/irreligious Equality. Thus, the two balance each other, and people like Erdogan cannot come to power.

  5. Do you have similar maps, spanning over decades? I’d love to see how this changed over time

  6. Percentage of women forced to wear misogynist clothing item to limit their social interactions, make them invisible in public and condition them to a lower social status. Europe should ban this misogynist indecency.

  7. Look like when its closer to Europe and the capital is low compared when its closer to asia interesting

  8. Really appreciating the post! But someone please explain why this post regarding turkey is in r/Europe

  9. Some people wear the headscarf because they believe it is a religious obligation.

However, some people wear the headscarf only because of family pressure, and if you pay attention, most of the headscarved women in Turkiye wear the headscarf for this reason.

There are also women in Turkiye who wear headscarves but do not cover their bodies (this is against Islam).

**Don’t misunderstand, I don’t interfere in anyone’s life and I don’t care, but what I want to talk about here is that these data are absurd.**

it is very difficult to measure exactly

  10. Kurds… Either Islamists or PKK supporters. Hardly found a normal one.

  11. In 1984, wearing the headscarf was officially banned in Turkiye, especially in schools, government offices and public spaces.

This ban continued for 29 years and was lifted in 2013.

Since then, the headscarf ban has increased the rates instead of decreasing them.

  12. In Kurdish majority parts of Turkey it’s common the see women not being allowed outside, not being allowed to be seen by other men. I think people should be aware that most Kurdish people in turkey are as far away from secularism as they can be. Marriage with a close relative is also common in those areas.

  13. Surprised to see Instabul being higher than Izmir. What’s the cultural reason for this?

  14. There are 2 main types (“baş örtüsü” and “türban”) of headscarves at least in Turkey, they have significantly different meanings and usage, and the women who use them also have very different world views regarding religion etc. This map means nothing grouping the 2 together.

  15. i wonder why do turks use the percent sign on the left even in other languages

  16. Blessed be the name of Mustafa Kemal. Who civilised this country and saved it from religious extremists.

  17. It would be more useful to see the map for under 40 yo women

  18. well that’s… good. honestly, the words of Atatürk, the Founder of modern Türkiye, regarding Islam is what I view it as: “Islam is a rotting corpse that is poisoning all of our lives”. yes that is something the founder of this majority Muslim nation said about this religion. and i for one agree with him. Most Islamic practices are incompatible with Modern Social orders. its why the parts of Türkiye that have shed most such practices are far more prosperous than parts that haven’t as well as the majority of Arabic Muslim states. hell, it’s even worse with the Arabs, they’re all stuck in another millennium socially.

  19. turks would you say this is increasing or decreasing.

  20. Didn’t even need to look at the map to know that this would be a Common Izmir W

  21. The problem is that many refugees from Syria, Afghanistan etc.. come in Turkey to repopulate religious people in Turkey. That refugees migration is a project made by AKP, they want to make very Islamic and Arabic 3rd world country and I say this so sadly 🙁

  22. Turkey has a lower % of women wearing a hijab than the muslim population in Western European countries.. lmao

  23. There is no such part as “the Kurdish part” of the country. Your description is biased, misleading and racist. It is also a disrespect to the unitary structure of the country.

  24. Is this just the hijab or does it include things like the thin cloth (like the ones worn by Eastern European grandmas), which doesn’t even fully cover the hair?

    Eitherway common Aegean W

  25. In the most conservative areas of Turkey, the percentage of head scarfs will be 0%. As they don’t go out.
