Hi all, this picture was taken around 1930 of my great grandmother, most likely in the Highlands somewhere.
All my own gran knows is she played the pipes (obviously). I just wondered if anyone could tell by the outfit she’s wearing any further information, aka what band she was involved in etc? Might be a bit more difficult it being black and white I know.
Thank you!

  1. Best I can tell, it looks like Gordon tartan, which would have her in the 92nd Regiment of Foot, the Gordon Highlanders. In 1994, they were integrated with the Queen’s Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons).

  2. If you know your great grandmother’s details try searching Scotland’s People. From there you should be able to find some information about her such as parents, occupations and where she lived.

A search of the British Newspaper Archive wouldn’t hurt either. If she competed in piping competitions then she might be mentioned somewhere.

Ancestry.co.uk might also have records you can look for. You might find some distant relative has more information. I’ve found stuff like a photo of my 4x great grandfather and his sisters that some 4th or 5th cousin had.
