1. On December 9th, in the city of Khmelnytskyi, the funeral of the fallen Ukrainian defender Ivan Hrysiuk took place.

   News of Ivan’s death became known on June 19th of 2023. He died in the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region during a reconnaissance mission. While performing his combat task, Ivan was injured, but due to heavy shelling in the area, his mates couldn’t get him out.

   “They couldn’t extract him because they were under fire. The group had to fall back. And they (russians) just finished him off. We couldn’t bring him back from the battlefield for a long time because they were constantly shelling. And he was there for about 10 days. For me, this is a very big… I mean, a huge loss. I can’t…” – mate of the fallen hero shared with tears in his eyes.

   For six months, the soldier’s mother Liudmyla Hrysiuk couldn’t bury her son. She says she went to the morgue, where the body was kept.

   “I thought, it could it be him, but I do not recognize him and I am his mom. Then the DNA test confirmed it,” says his mother.

   “For six months, we couldn’t do the DNA test. I had all sorts of thoughts. I thought, ‘Maybe he’s in captivity, that’s why there’s no result for so long.’ Then I thought, ‘Maybe he’s injured somewhere with amnesia.’ I called hospitals. But he wasn’t anywhere…The guys said he had died. I didn’t want to believe it, because every mom hopes that her child is alive even if it’s only a small chance.”
